Hi all, this is Jonathan :) It is a dear pleasure to be featured on this channel! Considering my deck: What you see is a contraption I built over a period of like 2 years, always changing cards and sliding others in which resulted in that pile. I tried many builds, ones with countermagic, others with more artifacts + copy/transmutes but I ultimately settled on a tapped-out control deck. The aim is to play very patiently, answer everything that is on board and in the end close out with beast+orb lock and/or pressure from factories. Besides Archeologist being an awesome card it serves multiple functions: a) bate for removal b) when it sticks value with artifacts, especially in conjunction with Sage of lat nam c) it can also block ;) . Sage is super nice - it also blocks, draws removal and always assures you trade up with your opponents disenchants because you sacrifice the targeted artifact in response . Don't feel afraid to run sages/ archeologists out in the open - each sword they are targeted with is one less for the beast ;) There are many fine lines in this deck which only get noticable once you played enough games with it. And again - tapped-out control + patience is the key play style. I do not think countermagic is the answer with this build. All players were afraid of me having 4 Counterspells which I didn't haha, although I tried my best to bluff them. After the tourney I switched out some cards but the core-strategy stayed the same. At the end of the day, I was able to play it to a top8 win-and-in during the swiss-portion of the tournament, mainly facing UWx Lion/Dib decks/ "The Deck" -Archetype which are considered to be at the top end of the "old school meta". Feel free to ask any questions :) Cheers, Jonathan and Stefan (aka The Beast)

Do you run any Black Vise? Black Vise is great for decks that force an opponent to draw cards or hold cards. Disk "forces" people to hold cards. Even if you don't mainboard, SB can wreck certain decks. Also, how many Copy Artifacts do you run?
@EasyCheezy13372 ай бұрын
@@Rorschachqp no black vise but you got my curiosity :D I tried 2 copy artifacts and went down to 0
@Rorschachqp2 ай бұрын
@@EasyCheezy1337 I think if you have certain artifacts like Black Vise you will suddenly find Copy Artifact super useful. Also, I don’t know if you can generate a red splash but 1 Atog would be hilarious. Also have you tried 1x Rocket Launcher or Power Artifact/Basalt Monolith?

Is there no room in the deck for 4 Counterspells, in order to defend the combo?
@Rorschachqp2 ай бұрын
@@nikkeiputter Counterspells are for protecting permanents but usually if you only have 2 or 3 of that permanent like book or stick or angel/mdjinn, etc. He instead is going for the 4x of each combo piece I believe since they are combo pieces and not single card solutions like book and stick.

My bird loves your magic channel. I don't know if it's your voice, the music, or the birds sounds in the music but she chats up a storm whenever I've got you playing in the background. She watches it more than I do because I leave it going for her to keep her calm whenever I leave the room.

That’s so funny, thank you for making my day 🎉 Does your bird prefer any specific parts of the video eg the intro or in between music?

@@TimmytheSorcerer She seems to like the more exiting plays and the song between games a lot but what really gets her pumped is the drunken sailor song. It's the same song I tend to whistle in the morning because it's catchy and gets stuck in my head. A good example on this video is at 34:40 when you said; "Okay he's gonna flip. I like it let's do some flipping. (sings)LET'S DO SOME FLIPPING!" When you sing that phrase she responds every time and keeps chatting for a bit. I suppose she's a chaos orb fan lol.

Fun match. I enjoyed both decks. Archeologist, i too like the card. I only own 2. Theyre usually in my graveyard as well. Jonathan, awesome shirt! Probably my favorite band. Ive been listening to them since the late 80s. R.I.P chuck🤘🏿.

I really need to give Archeologist another go. I love to combine him with Sage of Lat-Nam, but it’s such a fragile strategy 😅

I got my first Guardian Beast not long ago for the infinite flippies. Would also work nicely with Rocket Launcher, I think. Let you get off more than one shot.

The chao's flip did by Philip was not a valid one (34:50) because it didn't rotate 360 degrees

It’s up to the players 🤷♂️ but it did look like that.

Interesting pairing. I never thought to put Beast and Archaeologist in the same deck. Seems like a bit of a non-bo but I might play around with it. I only have 3 beasts and 2 archeologists anyhow, so it's not like I could make an optimal brew...but sounds like a fun one!
@Rorschachqp2 ай бұрын
It's a very 94 combo. Arabians (Guardian Beast) and Antiquities (Argivian Archaeologist) both were printed in 1993/early 1994 and at the time the sets came out enough for prices to emerge, Beast was the second-most expensive (behind Ali From Cairo and his Spectral Cloak) while for a long time the Archaeologist was the most expensive.
