I remember seeing that commercial and I asked that CD for Christmas. I was so excited when I got I went and listened to the CD at least twice that day. I know for Millennials it got them the first real exposure to The Beatles. I know for Gen Xers it was the Beatles Anthology TV special that got a bunch of people excited but it really was 1 that got people like me hooked.

You are right, outside of our parents (if your parents are boomers like mine), this was our formal introduction to the Beatles. I remember anthology a little bit when it came out, but I was only 7. I was 12 when this came out and it changed my life forever.
@Jokelben4932 жыл бұрын
I was born in 1996, my first exposure was actually my dads 1993 cds of 1962-66 (red) and 1967-70 (blue). When I was four years old in 2000, 1 came out, but all the songs on 1 are actually also on either of the red or blue albums. I actually wondered why there were only a smaller amount compared to the red and blue albums

The commercial that opened the door to The Beatles' world for me, and this was the first album I got as a little girl at nine years old. I came home from one of my surgeries in New York, back to my home in Pennsylvania, and The Beatles were waiting for me. After I got the 1 album, we would go to the Border's bookstore back in the day, and I would drive my power wheelchair straight to the music section, and look for The Beatles! I used to be a Paul girl, and I hugged Paul on stage in Philadelphia in 2010, ( a dream come true for this girl), five years later, in 2015 Paul's youthful voice began to fade, and it was the last time I was a Paul girl. As soon as the concert was over, I realized that the favorite Beatle who I should have picked all those years ago was the one who I could relate to the most, the one who wrote songs like "Strawberry Felds Forever," and "If I Fell," and so, when I came home, I ran straight to John Lennon. He had some rough times in his life, like me, and we have many good things in common, like reading, writing, and advocating for peace and love. In terms of songwriting, I like John' and Paul's lyrics, because they are autobiographical, and they tell a story. The Beatles will live on forever, and I will never stop listening to them! They are THE BEST!

Just a little side note: Paul McCartney hated the idea of Beatles songs being used for advertisements. According to him, they believed they owed some integrity to fans of The Beatles and they knew what fans wanted.

They played this ad so much on Nick at nite when I was a kid that it just annoyed the shit out of me, and it took another decade for me to give them a chance, (after I was already a dedicated musician for 2 years). When I was 16 and decided to listen to Sgt. Peppers on a long flight since it was included in the in flight entertainment and my friend had been pestering me to give them a chance. It blew my world apart. The second half of their discography is something that I treasure so much and return every year since then to discover something new. I am now a total Beatles fan that will wax poetically about them to any naysayers. Lately I’ve been even getting into the earlier songs that I hated from this commercial and realizing how genius they were. In conclusion, this ad was a seriously poor introduction to their music as a young boy, and as a result I missed many prime Beatles listening years. Fuck you marketing company and Nick at nite!
