They also had 7 other songs in the "Hot 100"...AND....they had the #1 and the #2 album....ALL AT THE SAME TIME! Not downloading...not streaming.....but ACTUAL physical sales! You got off your couch...got in the car...went to the store...bought the record...went home...and played it to DEATH!!! If one of your records sold 3,000,000 copies...that means that 3,000,000 people went to the store and bought it! Biggest band of all time! They changed the world before they broke up in April 1970.

The Beatles wrote MELODY, very strong MELODIES in 2 and 3 minute songs, for Radio in the period from approx 63 to 66 or so. I would suggest, listening to 5 songs in one setting, since most are about 2 or 3 minutes. They were all over the map melodically and constantly reinventing themselves. Having 5 or 10 hit songs in 2 minutes is possible, but to do it again and again and again, while writting very different songs is almost impossible. So here are 3 examples you can check out to compare the Melodic Power of the Beatles, all within a few years of each other... 1. Baby's in Black 2. Eight Days a week 3. Eleanor Rigby 4. I should've known better 5. All I've got to do

The members only recorded together for a little over 7 years, though they started their band in various forms during their school years. Brian Epstein saw them play and liked their potential. At that time, they were rocking the bad boy image with leather jackets and all. He took them out and bought them suits and ties to perform with. After that time, they always seemed to be nicely dressed. I would recommend the Beatles songs In My Life, Let It Be and Revolution.

Nice reaction No Limit Twon, the Beatles were the beginning of what was called ‘the British Invasion’, at the time. These guys opened the door for dozens of rock bands from the UK, in the 60’s and early 70’s. You may find this hard to believe but, along with their unique musical sound, the hair style caused major controversy here in the states - they were truly musical and cultural pioneers of the era. The Beatles were also huge fans of black American artists like Little Richard, James Brown, Billie Preston, Jimi Hendrix and others. You were astute to notice the suits they wore on stage, at the beginning of their career which gave off an aura of “rock n rollers with style.” The bow after a number provided a touch of class. These guys changed the world - no joke.

It would be no exaggeration to say that The Beatles invented Pop music. Very few bands in that early period wrote their own songs so prolifically. They were also the first pioneers of studio production using multi-tracking, so each song and each album were treated as a distinctive and unique creation. They appeared at exactly the right time, the baby boomers were mostly in their early teens, so there were millions of teenage girls who all had record players, and everyone watched TV. Actually being able to SEE live music performances on TV was still fairly new and exciting for fans, and it quickly became another key to their success. Young people freaked out when they first saw the Beatles on the Telly, LOL..the fanaticism that followed ( it was called Beatlemania) was also a Sociological phenomenon. The new youth counterculture that was spreading like wildfire, chose The Beatles to be their champions. This band was ushering in a new era. Their success I suppose can't be weighed and measured with honors and awards like other bands and artists because of this remarkable shift of consciousness that was taking place at the same time. Young people almost took over because of sheer numbers and the Beatles were almost as important as Jesus Christ.

I've said this to other reactors, chronology is important in discovering The Beatles. It's impossible to go from this song, or "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "I am The Walrus" or "Strawberry Fields". It just won't make sense. It's important to follow their progression from this early stuff, through the "Revolver" "Rubber Soul" album periods, onto the psychedelic stuff from "Sgt. Pepper" "Magical Mystery Tour" albums and finally to "The White Album" "Abbey Road" "Let it Be" albums. It's a great journey, and one every music fan should take! To understand why The Beatles are regarded as one of, if not, the greatest band of all time, you must understand what they did for music. They were not the most talented guitarists, drummers, or vocalists ever, but they were the band that opened the doors for all these great musicians to follow and changed the sound and recording of music and music culture forever. Rock N Roll was invented in the States in the 1950s through artists like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and more. It was a new type of beat music like Swing and Big Band Jazz but with electric guitars which was becoming very popular. All the young people were listening to Rock N Roll, but the radio stations, music industry, Christian conservatives, and parents were all rejecting this music, some calling it a bad influence or the music of the devil, and others calling out the roots in Black music to discriminate against it. Following the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson all in a fatal plane crash in February 1959, Chuck Berry getting arrested December 1959, and Elvis Presley getting drafted in March 1958, the biggest names of Rock N Roll had seemingly disappeared, leading the music industry to move forward and substitute these loud acts with quieter family friendly musicians. Music from 1959-1962 was very quiet and somber. No angst or excitement was really allowed on many stations. That is, until a small group from Liverpool, England started to gain popularity with their British version of the American Rock N Roll. The Beatles had gained a following with their mix of Skiffle, Mersey Beat, and rock N Roll that expanded the chord structures of the more Blues-based songs at the time, along with their own songwriting. Upon looking for a label to sign them, their manager was told that these guitar bands were "on their way out", but that changed when The Beatles' first single Love Me Do hit airwaves. Suddenly, they were already the biggest band in London, England when their first record, Please Please Me came out. By their third record A Hard Day's Night and a separate single I Want To Hold Your Hand, they cracked the charts in the United States, officially kicking off the British Invasion, allowing bands like The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Yardbirds, and plenty more iconic British acts to follow soon after. Their performances on The Ed Sullivan Show has been marked as one of the most important moments in music history. They started making movies, performing world tours, and playing live in stadiums, the latter of which they were the first band ever to do so. The Beatles' shows were so loud and hyped up, that it was when security checks and guards became extremely necessary to protect the artists because screaming girls would jump on stage to grab a piece of their clothes or hair. But The Beatles aren't great just for being extremely popular. They're great because they took music to the next level. After 1966, The Beatles were getting increasingly tired of touring. It became such a pain to keep moving around to play in large halls and events where the audience was louder than them. They could barely hear each other play, especially the drummer Ringo Starr who had to rely on vision of the rest of them tapping their feat and bouncing to find the rhythm. They ultimately decided to retire their touring days, but they were far from ready to retire from music. Not having to limit themselves on writing songs they could perform live, The Beatles took this chance to use the studio as an instrument to write new types of music. They practically kickstarted the world of Psychedelic music, Progressive Rock, and other genre mixing, experimenting with what they could do with the studio. They recorded songs backwards, wrote obscure fantasy lyrics, wrote one of Rock music's first concept albums, mixed all sorts of weird sounds and panning methods. They were all over the place. Their album Revolver was the first to really shoot up into the air with songs like Eleanor Rigby, Tomorrow Never Knows, Love You To, and Yellow Submarine, but it was their next album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that shot passed it into the skies. It was the most unique and wonderfully weird album ever made at that time, with the crown jewel being the iconic closing track A Day In The Life which can be considered the first true Progressive Rock song. The Beatles had already been the biggest band in the world, but they were now the most critically acclaimed popular musicians in the world as well. Their use of the studio opened the flood gates for every band afterwards to follow. Around 1967-68, The Beatles were still thriving in the success of their music, however, storm clouds started to loom for them. Their long time manager and close friend Brian Epstein died of a drug overdose in 1967 which caused the whole band to fall into a depression. Following that came frustrations between John Lennon and Paul McCartney over management issues. To make things worse, John met a gallery artist named Yoko Ono whom he would have an affair with, leaving his previous wife Cynthia to marry her instead. As a result of this, John would constantly bring Yoko into the studio while they were recording, which was against one of their rules on wives and girlfriends in the studio. It seemed that he was trying to make her a member of the band, featuring her on a handful of tracks on their self titled album (known as The White Album). She was becoming a big part of John's life and was also starting to affect his musical tastes and identity. The band hadn't really fought much when it came to their musical direction before, but now, John was becoming increasingly opinionated and outspoken. Paul didn't seem to make things any better. In his attempts to worry more on the band's image and status, he became a major force in the band, pushing them to necessary due dates and directing the band like his own. He was beginning to be seen as the band's leader, even going as far to be called a dictator. On top of this, George Harrison had been feeling under appreciated in that his songs never seem to be featured on their albums. He often only got one or two songs on each album but wasn't taken seriously as a musician. Both him and Ringo at different points temporarily left the band, but both returned not too long after. Much of these frustrations and tense environments were eventually released on the documentary Let It Be, which showcased footage of their Get Back sessions which were eventually released as their last album Let It Be. That wasn't the last album they recorded however. By 1969, the band had grown very hostile towards each other. John and Paul were at it with each other, George wasn't being heard, and Ringo was just there to witness it all go down. But there came a moment of light where they decided to give one last shot, though not addressed as a finale. They began work on a very special album that would go on to become on of the most loved albums of all time. It was an album that defined each member of The Beatles perfectly, giving more spotlight on George and Ringo, no presence of Yoko, and an even split with Side A to appease John and Side B to appease Paul. On September 26, 1969, Abbey Road was released. It was the first Rock album to hold a continuous medley of up to eight songs, which lead up to an emotional, bittersweet finale complete with string orchestras and horns, finally ending with a hard rocking bang in the song The End which featured solos from every member of the band. it was a spectacular moment in The Beatles' history which stuck their name at the top of the music world forever. The Beatles finally broke up on April 10, 1970 over creative differences, and around that time, bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Queen, Rush, Pink Floyd, and hundred of other bands began making their mark on music history. All of them were self-proclaimed Beatles fans. Their legacy has inspired virtually every major act that followed, which is why they are considered the Greatest Band in History!

John did not like touring, because he couldn’t hear over the screaming.

Love them or hate the Beatles The one fact is that we are still talking about the Beatles 51 years after they split up .... That's proof in itself
