I respectfully disagree. To my ears, the triplet tom roll clearly starts on the high tom (left hand lead), right hand moves to second tom, then floor tom. I really wanted to hear it differently given that Ringo himself at least once demonstrated it starting on the floor tom and moving up, but the recording doesn’t lie. Incidentally, what I heard and described lines up exactly with Drumeo’s tutorial. Go figure.
@peterb76274 жыл бұрын
There's a KZbin video where Ringo demonstrates how he started on the floor tom and then played the ride tom (as it was called then). He said he did it that way because he starts fills with his left hand.
@daveh70504 жыл бұрын
Hate to beat a dead horse, but the recording doesn’t lie. Check out the “isolated drums” version on KZbin and note how the pitch and timbre of the floor tom on the verses (Here come old flat top...) matches the ouch and timbre of the drum at the tail of the famous tom riff. The drum at the start of the riff is much higher, not just more deadened by the tea towels. The triplets start with the left hand, five in a row on T1 Before the right hand moves to T2 for one hit, then FT FOR two hits. (Left hand stays on T1 such that the triplets end up split between drums. Digest what I’m saying, then listen critically to the isolated track. Whether or not you agree, enjoy! Ringo has acknowledged that his memories of those sessions is (understandably) foggy. He may well have tried different patterns on different takes (I know I would have) and could be remembering one of those others. Definitely NOT *the* take though. ;-)
