Mike, I'm older than you. I used to sit in our living room for hours, lifting the needle and re-playing, lifting the needle and re-playing guitar parts on the records MILLIONS of times, trying to learn the parts, and occasionally would actually get close. I can see that that would NEVER have worked for tunes like this one and many others. Thank you for doing such a great job of unraveling Beatles magic.

How do you know you’re older than me? I too (as a child) listened to these records hundreds of times when they first came out and lifted the needle to try and learn the songs.

I think a lot of us who were young teens back then destroyed some precious vinyl Beatles albums by repeatedly stylus dropping on our favorite song or particular guitar riff. I know I sure did using my low budget all-in-one turntable system that I would queue by dropping the tone arm somewhere near where I hoped it should be!
@ramjtme

I too, used to lift the needle and replay over and over. I later found that making a tape, I could use the tape counter to rewind to the correct part of the song. Times have changed thanks to Mike Pachelli.

I used to be quite proud of my stylus dropping capability to land the needle in just the right place. Then I got a turntable with a lever. Wow, much easier! Now I can just watch Mike!

Just a few lessons more and we are able to perform the complete Revolver album. What may have inspired those young men from Liverpool in the middle Sixties to create this sound? Many thanks.

Mike, I could listen to play all day buddy. I started playing back in 1963 or so after listening to this new band called The Beatles. My friend played much better than me at the time, so he helped lead me into a lot of what I was playing and what I would be playing for a long time after that. I made most of my money through Jr and Hs playing at school dances with a few different bands, nothing big, just mostly for fun. After the Army it killed any hopes of me getting any bigger, I just wish I had kept it up. Now I have my three part retirement and have the money I need to buy whatever I want. Ive got 8 guitars and four amps but still playing alone in my basement! Now I’m 72 and have a lot of retreats about not playing more and in depth. I just wish I’d taken the right and proper lessons. Please don’t make the mistakes that I did!!!

Thank you very much young man. I'm an old French Beatles fan who's nearly 77 and I've been trying to work out how the guitar parts of this song are constructed for almost 60 years. Thanks to you I've finally figured it out! Congratulations on your remarkable work and your enthusiasm! The Beatles are eternal. May their fans be too !

Thanks Mike . Yes 3 Guitars is the key to this song I never knew. . To me This era was the Beatles at their best as a Lennon led Guitar band. ( Help- Rubber Soul -Revolver ) George one of the best ever at filling out songs without taking them over. Paul's Bass playing was also getting much more complicated. John was a outstanding rhythm Guitarist . He never gets the credit he should. Mike I needed these videos 40 years ago when I started .A big Thank you from your viewers including me.

Wow fantastic lesson. Always loved Dr Robert. Especially love the rocking back n fourth from the I7 to IVsus move. Also, Didn’t realize how simple George’s single note part is and how the chord progression just wouldn’t sound as cool w/o it. Thanks mate! Oh n ur sound-alike track is stellar. Big up

I always thought of this as the quintessential Beatles riff…if they were all alive and being welcomed on as guests on the David Letterman show, this is the riff Paul and the band would play in the background, the same way the brassy sped up ‘Thats Alright Mama’ opening is the quintessential Elvis riff…

Hi Mike, fantastic job on this. When I was learning to play guitar like almost everyone else I started with the Beatles. Now, almost 60 years later I'm still at it. I think those two albums Rubber Soul and Revolver was/is my favorite era. Still carrying the "guitar" music genre a little edgier than what other bands were doing. Thanks for reviving this and all the other songs. I love your playing, doing it the correct way.

Mike, admit it. You're a shape shifter and were the proverbial 'fly on the wall' during the recording sessions. Thanks for your incredible break downs. At this point, I think I'd trust your analysis more than surviving members memories! But seriously, anyone who hasn't spent time to reproduce an accurate rendention of even a single instrument wouldn't appreciate the hours or days to deconstruct a recording. Mike, you're a musician and have a lot invested in studio, equipment and instruments. But if you said it took you 100 hours to produce this instructive, 18 minute video of a simpler Beatle tune I'd say "That fast! ". Frankly, however long it took is amazing simply for the accuracy!

As insightful as we have come to expect. Musically this song (and the period generally) is fascinating. They were clearly moving away from conventional pop arrangements - is there something in George's parts of an Indian influence perhaps? And his first part is almost like a bass part played an octave higher than usual. It would be great to have an contemporary interview with them about what they were doing from a musical point of view although they were not necessarily the most articulate when it came to explaining technical matters. Certainly living through this was quite something - each new album or even each new track seemed both slightly odd but oddly brilliant and now years later, Mike and others like Alan W. Pollack reveal the brilliant truth.
