I've read many many Beatles books, but this one is by far the best. I mean, it's not even close. Much, much more information. Deepest dive I've ever been on about the Beatles. The deluxe edition as 200 and something more pages! I'd love to read it but, it's hard to justify spending $240 on a book in this economy. Maybe I can find a good used Edition.

the mind blowing part is this is only part one of three...
@davedem4107 Жыл бұрын
I know, can't wait for the next Edition. Mark has surely got to be getting close to putting part 2 out. Closing in on 10 years since the first book. At this rate, the trilogy is going to take about 30 years to complete!!!

Certainly worth the wait, if I live long enough. LOL

"We would not have heard ot the Beatles had it not been for Brian Epstein." He got them out of Liverpool. And the Beatles loved him.

They really did love him - went into a sort of breakdown after he died, but that transformation in India turned their sorrow into richly creative songs

I hate to say this, but Speke Airport is not an was not a part of "John Lennon" Airport, there are in two different places and Speke Airport is, as far as I know, is an industrial estate now! Anybody shed any light on this situation? Tks, in.anticipation 👍 Ken

Yes, you are quite right, they are 2 separate sites and the former Speke Airport is indeed a commercial/industrial estate.

Mark is the new 5th Beatle. But if Volumes II & III aren't published before I die - it'll be a drag. I share a birthday with George, 2/25/43. So, can you just send me what you've written so far?
@21stCenturyRadio2 жыл бұрын
That is a very good point! He is so driven to be complete and accurate it does take a long time between books! Hang in there, it will be worth the wait

Oh, so the second and third volumes are still incomplete? I was planning to buy them soon, since I found volume one in a thrift store for 3 Australian dollars, which is less than the price of a cup of coffee. I’m nearly finished it. Anyway, hopefully Mark gets them done soon, and to the standard that he wants the wants them of course.

Mark Lewisohn is a conman in my opinion. He has been pussyfussing for years concerning the release of Volume 2, finding all sorts of feeble excuses (the lack of funds being one). He also claims to be scholalastic (which he most certainly is not). I read his Volume 1. Yes, his work abounds with a plethora of obscure and irrelevant details (the result of painstaking research, granted) but it is far from critical and analytical in the true tradition of scholarly discourse. He is essentially an archaelogist digging, unearthing and presenting. His work is, in the final analysis, a lumping together of many personal and intimate minutiae (often vulgar and offensive) without interrogating these details to present a synthesis and objective assessment as the scholarly historian ought to. How far should the historian go in respecting the privacy of his subjects? I doubt whether the Beatles - Lennon in particular - would be very impressed. McCartney has also expressed reservations about Lewisohn's work. I shall give Volume 2 (if it ever sees the light of day) a categorical miss. I shall spend the time, instead, listening to the music of my beloved band.
