@@devinjerryfreedomisfree4599 Both songs were recorded in April 1966. TNK started recording on April 6 and I'm Only Sleeping on April 29. The release months of the Yesterday and Today album in the US was June 66 and had I'm Only Sleeping. The Revolver album with TNK came out in August 66. So it is like which came first the recording date or release date? Technically in the US I'm Only Sleeping came out first. Rubber Soul and Revolver albums had songs removed from the English albums so Capitol Records could squeeze out another record, Yesterday and Today, to make extra bucks. This happened on all the early Beatles record albums until Sgt. Peppers was released.

Man, it's like you're right there with John banging on the guitar. This truly shows the genius of John Lennon and the Beatles. This song is a blast to play on guitar. It just flows one chord into the next. And I love it when John changes from a minor key to a major key. Strawberry Fields and I Am the Walrus are my fav John Lennon songs. I was 14 when they hit it big and 24 when they broke up. I had the Beatles playing along with my life story. It was amazing to hear them year after year coming up with totally different sounds. But it was all based on the harmony of Lennon & McCartney. I hope I will get to meet John when I join him.

John Allen well said Mr Allen. I’m slightly older than you, saw The Beatles live at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1965 - I was nine years old. I only really remember screaming and standing on a chair between my two sisters who were also standing on chairs in the 11th row from the front, dead middle. Everyone was crying from emotion. It’s hard to explain and up until that show, I used to make fun of my sisters for their rabid love of them. Although I liked their music, the macho inside me forbade me from choosing a favorite but I did like John best in those early years. LOL! So, years later, I met John by sheer chance, in Disneyland while boarding the Matterhorn ride. He was getting off and was surrounded by people. I was getting on and kinda was too pushy... I literally bumped him! He stepped back as did I, I muttered an apology, and then I saw who it was. He just smiled and he said, “what’s the matter son, haven’t you ever seen a star before?” I told him, “not until just now!” I asked for an autograph and provided a business card from a dance club in Calais, France, he looked at it and said he’d been there. I asked, “really?” And he replied, “nah, I’m just joking, never heard of the place.” And then he turned, walked past me and was surrounded by the crowd. I wanted to follow but the Disneyland staff made me get on the ride. LOL! Still I met and talked to John Lennon and I will never forget. Also met Ringo a few years ago at a meet and greet and one of his shows. Super nice guy and I’m fortunate to have a photo of him flanked by me and my wife. I’ve seen Paul five times - once with Wings at his first show at the Cow Palace since his Beatles days. Saw George at The Forum in Los Angeles during his only US tour. George ended up being my favorite Beatle from about 1968 on. I’ve talked to Olivia Harrison just after his death due to my work in concert industry trade magazine. She was very nice as well. Kinda odd to think I’m retired and I still have crystal clear memories of most things Beatles related. Once a fan, always a fan. Thanks again for posting your comment.

@@easy56wedge Oh, you lucky person! I always wanted to work for a music industry magazine. I've been published in 500+ mags but never did work for one. It's hard to describe what JL and the Beatles mean to me. I had some tough teenage years and their words and music were always there to rescue me. I must have gone to at least 100 concerts in the '60s but never did see the Beatles. My fav concerts were "Cream" in LA in '67, and the Doors at the Whiskey. I stayed outside a stage door in Cleveland after seeing Janis until I was alone in the fog and rain. Then she came out. We had a great chat and I showed her the way to the local bar. She gave me a feather boa she was wearing. Also, Robby Krieger is a great guy, so talented.

I share your exact same sentiments about John Lennon. Often, I gauge how much I love the writers in the Beatles by the amount of goosebumps I experience while I'm listening to a particular writer's song. John's songs induce the most, George comes next, Paul, of course is third in line and then there's Ringo. Good old Ring. I can't say much about Ring, but I've always loved "Don't Pass Me By."

@@bandfromtheband9445 My most mysterious John Lennon songs: Imagine, Come Together, Working Class Hero, Instant Karma, Anna, There's a Place (strangely like "In My Room" by the Beach Boys). I'm a Loser, Help, Nowhere Man, I'm Only Sleeping, Sexy Sadie, Glass Onion, I'm so Tired, Julia, Rain. I could go on and on, I'm not sure exactly how many songs he wrote, but the Stones did over 300 songs, so it must be a bunch. Notice how in the early days they learned how to speed up the tape and raise their voices to pitches that were much higher than normal.

Their music literally changed an entire world...and it happened like an oil field going up in flames once it was ignited on the Ed Sullivan Show. Their lives were non-stop action and when all others would have crumbled from fatigue, they were simply,y energized and kept on creating magical song after magical song. Who were these guys anyway??? I love seeing all the comments giving props to Johnny's voice. By today's studio-field standards, he wouldn't win even the most obscure singing contest. He was quite nasal. But two things about that. First, a singer and a musician are entertainers first and foremost. It was never about who can sing the most 32nd notes in a riff and stay on key. It is about emoting. Music needs to make people FEEL something. And when it came to that, these guys are as good as it ever gets. Second, as with any good band there is a chemistry between the players that takes their performance to a level that it never could have reached individually. The Beatles are still a legend because their art (in this case the art of music) makes you feel things very deeply. And that is all art is really about.

Listen to all the takes for strawberry feilds. It starts off as an acoustic guitar song and throughout the creation you see it come into a genere chamging psychdellic masterpiece it was.

Thanks for posting this interesting take! The finished product of this, on Revolver is a little slower with a “dreamy” feel about it! Another classic that was not the usual “love” based story. The talent these guys had and displayed was breathtaking! It’s so interesting for me to see young people still getting it after 50+ years!

The Rubber Soul and Revolver era is my absolute favorite. Those two albums plus the amazing singles was absolutely musical genius.

Many years back, I was in a studio with four musicians working on some songs, and we took a break, sat on the floor in a circle, passed a joint, and the engineer put on some songs for us to discuss. This was one of them. Love this song, and that session makes me love it even more.

This version was also on Anthology 2 (disc 1). I was a little disappointed in the title of this video, to be honest, as it is misleading - this version of the track has been commercially available since 1996.

Fascinating to hear the raw versions of these classic songs. Em Cooper won the 2024 Grammy for Best Music Video using Lennon's song.

John's voice is unique!! I heard that he didn' t like it... how come???? This Band was and will be the best band ever. God bless The Beatles !!

That's true, he didn't like his voice, he constantly asked George Martin to make it sound different. Even when George( Martin) reassured him that his voice was great.

I grew up with the Beatles. I can remember being five and watching them land in NY and then watching them on Ed Sullivan. A few years later they came out with the Beatles cartoons and they would have the lyrics displayed on the screen with a red ball bouncing on the words to help with the singing. Much later I moved to Hamburg, Germany, and would go to the Kaiser cellar on the reeperbaum.Yes, the Beatles were and still are the greatest pop band on the history of music!

Hi Mate, I hate to be a 'wet blanket' on the Pont Neuf Bridge picture and I am not an expert on Parisian bridges. But the bridge shown in the picture is definitely not the Pont Neuf Bridge. Strange as it seams, the same picture does appear under "Pictures of Pont Neuf Bridge Paris" on the Internet. But as you can see it has no relationship with the aforementioned bridge. What worries me is that I would even notice this error, with the attractive arches in the foreground that should have taken my full attention in the first place. I think I must be getting old!
