You can do whatever you please, it will still sound fine, but mccartney does the quick C to C#, and its the technically correct way.

If you actually listen to the intro on Lady Madonna - the syncopation of your left hand is way off . The first 3 notes on the left hand in the actual song go A-C-D, then A-C-C#-D, with the rhythm going from (after the first initial line) on 1-2-1-2-3 on the walk up. The left hand rythm is NOT 'disco', but New Orleans Boogie Woogie. The G also walks down even if the Dm rests. Anyway - maybe make a video of you watching a 'how to play Lady Madonna' video. That would be entertaining.
