The story. The color, the textures. The time. The people, the place. The compassion. The unspoken concern. The chronicle of daily real life. This is the genius. This is the magic. It will never happen again. But we were there. The world is wonderful. Live it while you can.

I was blessed with the benefit of growing up with the Beatles' music. I was 13 when I saw them on Sullivan in 1964. I was at their last Toronto concert in 1966. What I remember most is that when a new Beatle record played on the radio the very first time, you never knew what you'd hear! It was always a revelation. From A Hard Day's Night to Yesterday to Yellow Submarine to Eleanor Rigby to Lady Madonna, they always surprised and delighted with different styles and textures of songs. I was celebrating my 12th birthday when Lady Madonna was on the radio in So. California. My childhood soundtrack was grounded in The Beatles. I concur with your comment. Even though I may have been a bit behind the times due to my age, every song, every album and any news about the Beatles was groundbreaking. My brothers and I walked to the theater to see Hard Days Night, and the girls were nearly as loud as those at the concerts. Girls were crying in the theater! Oh how amazing it would be to go back in time to relive those magical days.

*sigh* To help educate those here who are new to the Beatles this is the original video for Lady Madonna. The video was actually the band recording Hey Bulldog in 1968 but they had originally intended to mime. In 1999 the footage was re-edited to create a video for Hey Bulldog. To summarize there are two videos that are based on the same footage - Lady Madonna & later Hey Bulldog.

@@patriciawright8786 what's the difference? Why can't it be both? What is pop such that Lady Madonna didn't qualify? The Beatles were very much popular artists, though they obviously included diverse musical elements and experimented across genres. All that said, the point I was making was that, as popular music, long solos were scarcely permissible on a single, whereas they are meat-and-potatoes for jazz. As a jazz artist, Ronnie Scott was miffed that his solo was truncated, but the Beatles knew what they were doing because they were masters of popular music and its constraints.

2011 - I was 16. I met a girl in the Internet. She was also 16, and Beatles fan too. We spend time writing letters to each other, talking on the phone and dreaming that one day we'll go to Paul McCartney's concert. Some people were saying that there is a small chance Paul was going to visit our country because neither he nor the Beatles have ever been there. *two* *years* *later...* 22.06.2013 - Me and my online friend met for the first time. A crowd of people in Beatles/Wings T-shirts, a long queue. We were so excited that our dream comes true... There was a rehearsal in the stadium but it was quite loud so we could hear it outside. *Lady* *Madonna* - my favourite song at that moment. I screamed and squeezed my friend's hand. I realized where I am and that in a few hours I'll see my idol and a living legend, sir James Paul McCartney. Since then I loved Lady Madonna even more.

@@pauldickinson6943 The problem as I see it and this goes for all media (movies, series etc.) is that there is a talent shortage. Writers, actors and the like. Then the music industry convinced people that rap and hip hop is better than sliced bread. Then we have remake after remake. The reason that stuff was good in the first place was the actors were good, the directors were good and the writing was good. There's simply a lack of talent. Same with sports. We only have 30 odd teams with football, baseball etc. Not enough talent to support more teams. There will never be another Beatles nor another John Wayne. These things can't be duplicated.

One of the Beatles very best “later years” songs. There were no liner notes describing the Beatles doing their vocal “air horns” but as a kid, I immediately knew they were doing it because I used to play around with that. They were not afraid to try totally improbable things to get the sound they wanted rather than using stock instruments like everyone else did. Incredible that 1968 was really their “later years”, but that’s how fast the group progressed. Every six months they were doing totally different things, No one EVER knew what was going to come out next. It was their train & the rest of us just tried to keep up. No band ever worked with so many styles all at once either and no one else has ever done that since. That’s why the band basically exploded towards the end. In 8 years they had done what most groups could never do in 15 or 20 yrs.

Instrumentally, lyrically, vocally, this song sounds like its always about to fall over itself, like erratic, all over the place, but never quite does and then comes suddenly melodically and rhythmically whirling back just in time, over and over again, just like day to day life is for most of us that makes musical life sense.

Lady Madonna is basically a Fats Domino song. It’s in his style. That rolling R&B keyboard boogie Woogie that he specialized in. What’s amazing is how Macca was able to copy other peoples styles and write good original songs in their style. Who else does that? Nobody.
@chuckw22368 ай бұрын
When I was a young teen I had thought that "Lady Madonna" had a Fats Domino feel to it, and years later I read a Paul McCartney interview where he mentioned that he wrote the song with Fats Domino in mind. For some reason it made feel good that I recognized that at an early age, especially when I hadn't seen it mentioned by anyone before.
One of the best Beatles songs, and they had many. This one is a masterpiece.

Another number 1 hit by the Beatles. It was on the charts for weeks in the spring of 68. See Ringo lay down a tight drum beat as Paul plays the piano. Listen to the three part harmony when the sing See How They Run. Perfection!

John and George looked different every month, it was insane. They'd get a haircut and three months later it was past their shoulders and in a new style. Crazy. They could pull off everything though, so why not. Here John looks like a mix of John Sebastian and Ray Manzarek.

Absolute masterpiece! I love John's surrealistic lyrics but this is poetry that speaks to everyone and I don't think McCartney gets enough cred for that - never mind the music and insane piano from Paul!

Where did you get "John's surrealistic lyrics" from? He certainly didn't write the lyrics. He may have offered a word or suggestion here or there, but the evidence even for that is poor. In 1972 "Lennon attributed Lady Madonna directly to Paul McCartney . . . with no comment." (Hit Parader 1972) Eight years later he can't remember so well. Asked by Sheff who wrote it he said flatly, “Paul." But then he adds "maybe I helped him on some of the lyrics," but he seems to be just guessing. "I'm not proud of them either way," he said. (All We Are Saying) In Many Years From Now, Paul said "'Lady Madonna' was me", mentioning no input from John. In "McCartney 3,2,1," Paul says that he wrote the song at home (7 Cavendish Ave, St. Johns Wood) with no mention of John. That's corroborated by Ringo's comment back in 1968 that Paul brought it into the studio finished: "I couldn't really say what the lyrics mean, because only Paul knew what he had in his mind. Paul composed the song at home." (Beatlesebooks) I can't find any source that adds any meat to John's very vague "maybe I helped" from 1980.

@@strathman7501You probably misunderstood. I guess it says John's lyrics are surrealistic in general but Paul made good poetic lyrics to this particular song.

Back in the day there lots of good bands around .- plus lots of blues men from America. What I liked about the Beatles was their wit and intelligence which they injected into their music. They embodied the freshness that the world desperately needed then... and even more now. I still listen to them half a century later and with the passing of time the greater they seem to become.

I am 16 years old, I was born on January 21, 2008, I am from Mexico, in this case from Mexico City, Federal District, originally from there, I was born there in the capital, I am Mexican and I am proud of Being so not only because of its great country's ecosystem or culture but also because of its music since Mexico is one of the countries in the world and in Latin America that has the most Beatlemania and I must say that I am Musician, composer, performer, and I have my own band created by me from Mexico and I am inspired by The Beatles to make it myself since they inspired me to enter the world of music and I like them I really love The Beatles, both their music and their talent, that's why I have been inspired by John Lennon since he is my favorite Beatle to create my own musical band, but I must also tell him Thanks also to John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr and thank you for inspiring me to be who I am today and to be prepared for my future. Music was what helped me.I help to assign myself and create my band with other friends from school.
