What surprised me watching this at the end is the way George takes control and tells John when to come in on the verses ! This is clearly a Paul song and you read in all the books how the other Beatles didn’t like “Let it Be” yet here is George playing a part in working with Paul to give the song structure and form ! And this despite the fact that George’s songs were not given enough attention by the others. Makes me wonder if “All things must pass” was written in response to Paul’s “Let it Be”.

Benglassman, it's well known that Paul and the other Beatles did not allow George to have enough of his songs on their albums. George said he felt constipated, which is why he released a triple album as his first venture outside the Beatles because he had so many songs that the others wouldn't allow on the Beatles albums. Also he brought Eric Clapton into the something session because the other Beatles were not cooperating sufficiently, as they frequently did on his songs. George said that for once they behave perfectly when Clapton was there

It’s a brief glimpse based on a grainy black and white film. It won’t serve you to build an entire narrative from these clips. The group are aware they are being filmed for a start. What would be interesting would be high definition sound and audio footage of them caught unawares ! Among other things, you would see that Lennon had bright red hair and the personality that goes with it ! Yes, he was a pale and skinny red headed kid ! Yoko was tiny and of course George was blossoming into a mature man by 1969 ( he was much, much younger than Lennon ). I don’t know what the point of these documentaries are other than to cast Paul in a more favourable light ?
@mortensenegbert66193 жыл бұрын
Paul was pretty vulnerable here, trying to keep the band together when the others were halfway out the door already. Supposedly John said at one point during the sessions for "Let It Be" (the song), "Is this the part where we're supposed to snicker?"
@patrickthomas88903 жыл бұрын
John could be a bit of a dickhead. He was jealous of Paul at times. I think for Let it Be, he was jealous of Paul’s productivity at the time when he was going through writers block. He also felt the movie showcased Paul way too much…which I don’t see
@mortensenegbert66193 жыл бұрын
@@patrickthomas8890 Agreed. John spoke in interviews about Paul phoning saying he had his 7 songs and it was time to record an album. John would say "Okay, let me come up with something." I put "Yesterday," and especially "Revolver" as the point where Paul kind of took the lead over John. Having said that, John came up with a ton of great stuff all through. Just not as much as Paul. @@michaelquinn8618 On his guitar playing, Lennon said ' You only have to be good enough to back yourself ' which he did well and became one of the top rock artists in history, within a relatively short time. His strengths lay in his singing and songwriting although his rhythm playing could equal the best. There are countless 'expert' rock guitarists who never have nor ever will produce anything to compete with him. Still, it did make me laugh a bit when Lennon said ' Clapton says I'm good !' , particularly as Lennon was employing him at the time.He could be daft, but he seemed to know that and his remark about playing bass was pretty much an admission that he lacked the discipline to do it properly ( hear the final note of Let it Be mischievously slide up the neck ).

Yoko broke up the Beatles by convincing Lennon that he didn’t need Paul or the Beatles. John was just off heroin and very vulnerable
@Rockstaralan3 жыл бұрын
Wow....Still buying into that stupid myth that Yoko and ONLY Yoko alone was responsible for breaking up The Beatles! Here's the thing: It bears STRONGLY REITERATING that there were SEVERAL factors at play in the Beatles' breakup. In fact, they were already starting to come apart as a band WELL before she even entered the picture. There were power struggles from within the band, Paul assuming unofficial leadership and control, while John was zonked out on heroin and otherwise occupied, George finally getting sick of always being treated like a kid and third-class citizen by John and Paul, and only allowed 2 of his own songs per album. It certainly didn't help that John just HAD to violate their long-standing rule of no wives of GF's allowed at the studio, by bringing Yoko around and basically flaunting her in the others' faces to prove a point. Nor was she exactly endearing herself to anyone by constantly offering her unwanted opinions and creative input. That is ALL true. But let's not forget that there were also the messy business affairs and court battles that finally brought the dream to an end. So while Yoko's presence certainly was enough to pour salt into an already festering wound, she was NOT the sole cause of their demise! Please let that sink in!

@@Rockstaralan You are so right! It’s not that The Beatles were the happy Fab Four until Yoko appeared. For instance, Paul wanted his father in law to be their manager, whereas the others backed Allan Klein (despite George’s lyric ‘Beware of Abco’). Life is rarely black and white!
