The way John extends the word 'out' in Twist and Shout is, presumably, the way he'd have sung it on the Please Please Me album if his voice hadn't been shot after singing all day with a cold. And I so love the admiration John's face shows for Paul as he so brilliantly sings Long Tall Sally, the way the band rips into it is unbeatable.

So much news today. McCartney and Harrison gettig nominated for the 64th Grammys, this NME concert getting a restoration, and for the next 3 days the Get Back docu-series. It's Beatle Week, people.

man so THIS is the show that paul brings up whenever someone asks if he gets stage fright just in case someone reads this and is like "no way not Paul": _"I remember nearly giving it all up when we were doing a concert in Wembley - which was a Poll-Winners concert - in the really early days of The Beatles. And I remember feeling physically sick with a knot in my stomach thinking, 'I should give this up, this is just too painful, what am I doing?'"_
@sunside7 Жыл бұрын
I didn't know that. Cool quote! Thanks for sharing. Nice to know even Paul McCartney can get stage fright! Knocked it out of the park though, regardless. They all did!
@allancerf9038 Жыл бұрын
A FAR greater example of Paul having (rare) stage fright is the Royalty Variety Performance on Till There Was You. His nerves are so bad - it's quite painful watching his acute embarrassment, and worse, his TERRIBLE grimace - which is supposed to be a smile. It is incredibly painful to watch - and that's not hype. Literally painful. Given his track record though - I think over the decades he's done rather well for himself. Best, Allan

It's also possible Paul was referring to the NME concert they did before this one (when they were invited as guests).

First three songs by John, and after Twist and Shout he had no more voice.. I never recognized Ringos hair movements in Long Tall Sally in previous versions, and I never saw the award before. Who did this fantastic job? My ears are on the floor now - they fell off of my head due to my biggest grin ever...

it's an uncomfortable part of history, but a part of history nonetheless. one of the most famous people 50 years back turned out to be a child predator. the course of action shouldn't be editing him out, but recognizing the power dynamics at play and striving to move past them. it's a good chance to grow.
