En febrero de 1963, Helen Shapiro era la cantante británica más exitosa (tras haber alcanzado lo más alto de las listas dos años antes a la edad de 14) y The Beatles la acompañaron como parte de su gira nacional en el Reino Unido. El mánager de Shapiro, Norrie Paramor, estaba buscando material nuevo para un álbum country que planeaba grabar en Nashville, Tennessee, y sugirió que The Beatles podrían componer una canción especialmente para ella.Compuesta originalmente para la cantante inglesa Helen Shapiro, "Misery" se convirtió en algo más delicioso y extraño.

Recuerdo cuando niño, unos 8 años aproximadamente, escuche esta canción. Wow dije en mi mente. Que sonido, que melodía. Cuando mi papá se descuidaba le sacaba el cassette y lo ponia en el equipo de audio a todo volumen. Y en mi adolescencia, cuando compre el CD, Please please Me, creo que le borre la pista 2. Y ahora lo veo en mi hizo Enzo, que tiene casi los mismos gustos musicales a los mios. Unos genios los Beatles.

Much to her dismay, the Beatles had wrote this song for Helen Shapiro .... but it WAS NOT revealed to her until much later that they had. Her manager had turned it down without telling her.

Al parecer una pieza, que aunque la experiencia sea ficticia, al describirse el protagonista, como muy poco dado a llorar, refleja,al parecer la manera de ser de Lennon, Mc Cartney , Harrison y quizà Starr, eso no quiere ni querìa decir que carecieran de sentimientos ni emociones; por cierto en una de las frases finales, al parecer le reclaman a algo o alguien que la haga regresar, parece que se dirigen a Dios o al destino; porque realmente sin el amor de su vida, cualquier varòn, se siente miserable; ademàs de este intenso contenido y la impulsiòn propia de esta melodìa, le otorgan a esta pieza, un gusto muy especial.

It IS the REAL Beatles. It's the song Misery that appeared on the American small label VEE Jay records BEFORE the Beatles came to America. How do I know ? I have an original LP sitting in my collection, and have had for YEARS. I've listened to this version countless times. Sorry to disappoint you .... this IS John Lennon singing. Nuff said .......
