Nice work! I will still never get over the fact that all these years I thought it was Paul playing the bass on this one, but found out it is actually George. Not many, if at all, can emulate Paul's bass work to a tee. Amazing work. (I had the same reaction with Maxwell's Silver Hammer...also George, and also perfect.

From Google: On abbey road he is listed as playing bass on Maxwell's silver hammer,Oh Darling,Golden Slumbers and Carry that weight. He also plays bass on she said she said off revolver because Paul had an arguement with the others and stormed out so they finished the song without him. The most famous song he plays bass on is Hey Jude
@markydh833 жыл бұрын
Always loved this baseline. There’s some debate about who actually played it. It’s always been assumed that it was Paul, but the Abbey Road box set has George listed as playing the bass on this one.
@agostino48443 жыл бұрын
I think they did a few version, and in the first versions George played the bass, but Paul overdubbed his bassline after played the piano on the main track
@gilassp3 жыл бұрын
@@agostino4844 The bass was not re-recorded or overdubbed. It's George on Fender Bass VI. The isolated bass track even has two natural harmonics that are out of range on regular 4 string bass. Also other instrument track like drums has a bleed from the bass playing.
@NoirL.A.2 жыл бұрын
@@gilassp you sure it wasn't the fender jazz? GEORGE used one of those on the songs he played on 'ABBEY' too.
@gilassp2 жыл бұрын
@@NoirL.A. The bass track has a natural harmonic in the intro and later in the middle of the song that is out of range of 4 string bass. The bass part of course can be played on 4 string bass but George used Fender VI for this one.
@DizzySaxophone Жыл бұрын
@@gilassp if you listen to the isolated bass track, you can also hear some hesitancy in the bass part which would seem out of place for Paul, on his own song, especially if he took the time to overdub. I definitely thought it was Paul for years, then once I heard the isolated track, was thoroughly convinced it was likely George. Still an amazing track!
@johnsmith1003 жыл бұрын
The amazing thing about this baseline and some others, like Hey Bulldog, is that no one told Paul what the bass part of the musical arrangement should be. He came up with those ideas by himself. This is really amazing, how to think about what a good bass line should be in a song.

There's no doubt it was George on his Bass VI. On the isolated track you can perfectly hear the texture of the fender and its harmonics. It is a perfectly documented fact. What always surprises me is that when it is said "Paul played lead guitar on that song..." all the folks😊 takes it for granted, but when it's George who makes a masterpiece on bass, there are many who doubt it. And it's weird because you CAN PERCEIVE the line coming from a lead guitarist playing bass (like on "Old Brown Shoe").

@LeftyBassman2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's possible to have different fret position, it's very hard to guess what string Paul used (or George). I usually prefer to play in the middle of the fretboard for a fatter sound.

was looking for bass cover of this, found your version is much better mainly because i usually try to avoid open string notes and prefer to fret the BEADG. Am also a lefty bassist. dont know bout you but i find it easy to follow a right handed player(guitar or bass) than another lefty,(sorry lol) for me when i follow a righty it appears im looking into a mirror cuz the neck is facing the way i am. and its easier for me. guitarists say its hard to follow me cuz im lefty, i think thats weird for them. thank you, keep up the good work!
