"'Oh! Darling' was a great one of Paul's that he didn't sing too well. I always thought I could have done it better - it was more my style than his. He wrote it, so what the hell, he's going to sing it." - John .... oh john would've killed this song! 💛
@riderkamen45663 жыл бұрын
paul wrote the song as a way to express his confession to john - unspeakable things he wants to say to john that can only be delivered in a song, makes it more clear and understandable why paul didnt want anybody to sing it but him

@@shutupandmakemeasandwich6991 There is a recording on Anthology where Lennon sings a couple of the verses. It sounds great and is very natural for Lennon to sing. I think Paul did a very good job on the album, but for Lennon it was effortless and sounded wonderful.

Paul McCartney always was the first one in the studio when they were recording, "Oh Darling." He always sung it once, then he waited until the next day to sing it again because then it would not get old and he waited until the perfect take, that's how the album version was made!

Paul does do many voices, but quite a few of them I don't like. He had to wear out his voice to pull off this song, but he did pull it off in the end. I think he should have stuck with his good voices and not messed around with the rest, but I guess I'll give him credit for taking chances.

@beatlestoneful That is definitely Paul from the Let it Be sessions. During the month of January 1969 Paul recorded at least 10 different versions of Oh Darling. If you are familiar with the Let it Be sessions then you would recognize the sound of these endless Beatle jams. Hundreds of songs over twenty days according to the book "The unreleased Beatles" by Ritchie Unterberger. It's a great reference book, I highly recommend it for any true Beatles fan.

If Paul could help put together a collection of great outtakes with comments for posterity, that would certainly be greatly appreciated by everyone both now and in the future because the Beatles represent a high point in rock in the same way Beethoven did for symphonies, Michelangelo for sculpture, etc. and fans and musicologists will be studying them far into the future.

The difference is most of what the Beatles wrote was timeless, while Madonna's efforts are dated.They didn't perform 60's standards, they created their own sound, they have such a repertoire,(their own stuff not covers) you could listen for days and not hear the same song twice. They are so diverse in their genres you can hear a song and not realize it's the Beatles, or that it was recorded fifty years ago.They in no way produced 60's standards, but they did set a standard no one else can touch.
