John was always critical of their work. He claimed he should have sung lead here. It's a matter of taste, Paul does a good job and John would have done it just as well. It was about John being an incurably disaffected visionary rather than rivalry.
@CowmanUK
@CowmanUK Жыл бұрын
@@dennislindqvist8443 John used to do things and then later trash it all, it was just what he did, how he was. I believe (from what I've read/watched/heard) that anyone who knew him never took offense when he trashed stuff they'd done because if you didn't like what he'd said then ask him again later that day and you'd get a different opinion. Personally I think Paul was by far the better singer in the group. John used to do the strong vocals earlier and Paul the more melodic stuff, so Lennon would think he should've done this, but by this time Paul was doing a stronger vocal than John. So I think it was spot on as it was. None of them did any real harm, they have provided more joy to the world than misery, and they all deserve a special place in history for that. Long live The Beatles... the group that - to this day - all others are judged by.

Paul McCartney came in to the studio early for about a week to develop and finally deliver the vocal performance heard here. He kept stretching the boundaries of his vocal abilities till, after many days, it was just right. John Lennon loved Oh! Darling. His guitar work here is impeccable. John also felt he should've been the one to lead sing the song. His voice is quite prominent in the banks of oohs & aahs that John, Paul and George provide to embellish the verses. Paul McCartney's last truly "Great Song" as a Beatle. Great reaction HB. Best wishes, RNB

I'm a 71 year old musician who specializes in Beatles and John Lennon . What is great is I'm old enough that my music is akin to those living in these nursing homes I play at ! WIN WIN ! I love to see the reaction of younger people who hear what I've dedicated my remaining years to preserving and playing . I've played blues and three piece rock , but give me my studio , piano and guitars and I'm doing Strawberry Fields ! You should see the reaction I get from these old goats when I whip that baby out ! I just figured out " Now and Then " and cry through the whole process of recording the vocals for the chorus ! It rips me up ! I also do this ! All you need is a piano , bass drum , snare & high hat and chop that guitar and some " aaaaaaaaaah's " Thanks for listening to one of the great songs ! Peace !

Paul is often though of as the least rock-heavy of the Beatles, but this song, and some of the earlier rocking ones he sang on (his "I'm Down" and "Birthday", and their cover of "Long Tall Sally") show what a great rock voice he had.

Little Richard himself taught Paul how to belt out those "growly" vocals from deep within his diaphragm. They toured together in England in 1963. You should check out the Beatles' cover of the Little Richard song "Long Tall Sally." Early Beatles Rock n Roll, but it's straight FIRE. Every member shines on it. Paul's vocals, George and John take turns with a guitar solo, even Ringo's drumming is crazy! Gotta check it out.

I love when Paul does this kind of stuff and he's so good at it. It makes you think that it's throat would just be ruined but man the guy's been singing for decades so he learned how to do it more or less right. But I also absolutely love the backing vocals, especially in that final verse, which would be John and George. If you listen closely, not only are they beautiful Harmony lines, the way they switch up their vowel sounds and the way they do it, it's just so creative but it fits perfectly without stealing anything away from the phenomenal and tortured lead vocal line.

For something completely different, I recommend “You know my name look up the number.” John and Paul do such varied and funny vocal performances it’s hard to believe it’s the Beatles. Totally different than any other Beatles song. And great fun. You’ve got Paul screaming his heart out at the beginning, then doing his best smooth American lounge singer.

Paul lived right down the street from the recording studio in those days, and when he did "Oh Darling", he went in almost every morning for about two weeks until he got the vocal just the way he wantesd it. He went in during the morning, so he could have that early morning rasp in his voice.

HazeBruv, I just watched your awesome reaction to this song, and I've seen the others you've done off their Abbey Road album too. I've been Beatles fan since 1964 at age 9, and knowing their music as well as I do I have some important advice with Abbey Road. Side 2 of Abbey Road is legendary because most that side is concept or a medley, meaning one song will blend into the next one and so on. You've already done "Here Come The Sun" which is the first song on Side 2 of the original LP. For the full effect of the coolness factor of this, my advice is to start with the second song "Because" and play all the rest, one after the other. Back in the day, disk jockeys would sometimes play just Side 2 of Abbey Road on the radio. Not only because it was cool, but so they can take a longer break! 😁 I know it will be a longer video, but it's worth it if you can.

TBH, I'm not sure MSH is even suitable for adults... except that it could be said to be redeemed by its inclusion of the only known reference - AFAIK - in popular music, and possibly any music ever, to pataphysical science, which may or may not hold the answer to some of the song's questionable content... :-D

I LOVE that observation that "technology wasn't that good." Most of The Beatles career was recorded on merely 4 tracks at a time. I mean, wow, just think of that compared to what we have nowadays. All credit to George Martin and the famous engineers of Abbey Road who never said "no" to what The Beatles were going for, musically. They were all pioneers.
