Sam interesting, never heard that. i think people would be more inclined to think the opposite, but i’ve heard other stories from other people that john was the one more likely to stop for fans for example and talk to them compared to the others. shame jimmy feels he wasn’t welcomed by paul and george though
@lydiarodgers

Sam oh i agree, i’m saying that many people would think the opposite bc they seem to have a misconception from theories on the internet and periods of frustration he went through that he was some horrible man that made fun of everyone he met. he could poke fun of course, but we both know he wasn’t a bad man

The saddest part of Interview is where when Lennon is asked at the end by interviewer if they were aware of everything around them and there surroundings? Lennon replied oh yea, cause if not you might get shot!

I wish so much I could have been there in N.Y. City outside John’s apartment building to stop it. I came home that night after work and was watching Monday Night Football when fricking Howard Cosell made the announcement about John. I held my emotions back until the next morning when I was alone. You know what I mean.

What strikes me about the Beatles is how natural and honest they were. No pretentious or canned responses. Just straight forward answers. Also they didn't take all the attention that seriously or let it go to their heads. Also I was 19 when this interview was taking place.

The four were instructed what and what not to say. It did irk the four of them, especially John. They has four of these banl interview in three weeks. It is a credit to them for the way conducted themselves. Probably because this was the last interview on the Australian tour.

Sure Brian coached them on some things not to say but they seemed sensible enough to stay out of trouble. Elvis had a huge flub early in his carreer when a TV reporter asked him about a girlfriend or getting married and Elvis said Why buy the cow when the milk is free? 😀 Pretty shocking stuff in the 50's and Col Parker damn near put an end to interviews after that.

Australian interviewers were always so sensible, asking such good questions and being so aware of what the stars of the interview were doing. American and British interviewers always asked asinine questions which provoked sarcastic replies.

Galericulus I could not agree with you more! Watching some of those old interviews is cringy and uncomfortable because of the stupid questions. And after only a couple of years, the Beatles attitudes toward these press conferences became so negative, but do you blame them? If you haven’t seen it, look up Paul’s response to being questioned about writing songs about lesbians and prostitutes 🤣. Probably my favorite snarky response ever.

Not always. In 1972 they kept asking Black Sabbath only about their name, and then only about marijuana; NOTHING about their music, recording, etc. But here, they were excellent, especially the question about how much they rehearse new material. Paul's answer was only valid for recording, but in Barry Miles book The Beatles - a diary: an intimate day by day history, Barry reveals always at least two days rehearsals before every tour.

4:19 - I love Paul's "eye roll". He's asked a question about composing, and is briefly interrupted by John, and then the same reporter moves on to another question to John without waiting for the answer to his previoius question that Paul was formulating. The Beatles had to have a healthy dose of tolerance for stupid members of the press.

A few fun facts, Adelaide gave the Beatles the biggest greeting of their entire career with over 300,000 people turning out, around half the city's population at the time...Also the Adelaide concert was never originally planned and only happened because local DJ Bob Francis organised a petition demanding the Beatles come and play. It was said to be a huge very happy well behaved crowd who obviously loved the Beatles more than most... This always made me proud of little o'l Adelaide...

It was the biggest thing in Adelaide since the Queen visited in 1954. I used to go to a dance called The Rincon Stomp at the Henley Beach lifesaving club. Jimmy seems like a decent guy and a good sport. Shy and modest, he seems happy to remain in the background unless he is asked a direct question. But he also appears to be enjoying his very brief time in the spotlight. It's hard to imagine what it must have been like to be plucked seemingly out of nowhere (although he was known around Liverpool as a respected session man) and flown halfway around the world to take the stage with the biggest act in the world. On stage, he was clearly nervous that he'd miss a beat or get something wrong, but he knew the songs and did a very competent job keeping the beat until Ringo was well enough to rejoin the group.

The Beatles (the 3 of them) look like stars here and Jimmy Nicole is their temporary drummer but not really part of the club like Ringo. To his credit the guy never cashed in and wrote a book. Ringo is missed and the circle is not complete. Also they were well aware of the Kennedy assassination at the time and had more than passing concerns of being shot. This would get even worse during 1966.

Great original footage of the Fab Four's Adelaide leg of their only Australian tour, what is so shockingly ironic is at the very end of this footage a reporter at the press conference says to John Lennon.. "You're very aware of what's happening around you now?, and John Lennon ironically replies.. "You ought to be cos you might get shot??" , sadly 16 years later that's exactly what happened to him in New York, unbelievable irony!

Ringo had tonsillitis at that time. His tonsillitis was removed within 2 weeks in the hospital.

To us now it seems beyond ddd how carelessly archive was treated in the past. I guess before VHS home tapes and digital outlets and multichannel broadcast there was little realisation of how much this stuff would be of interest (and potential commercial value) to rights holders.

I recall reading in a book, - the crowed of 300,000 people awaiting their arrival in Adelaide, South Australia was the LARGEST anywhere in the entire world; -John’s Aunt Mimi, who had relatives in Adelaide, took one look at the crowd, from the plane (she was travelling and planned on seeing her relatives), took one look at the crowd and upon seeing the amount of people, decided to stay on the plane and head straight to Sydney. Who are those relatives? Are they still alive? ANYBODY?

Not sure, Leanne. It would have been shot on 16mm by several people or TV stations. It may also be possible that a tv camera was present shooting live or possibly to 2 inch tape. TV stations may have the original films or video copies or they may be in the hands of private collectors. National film & sound archive?
