Please note that music videos hadn't even been invented at this time. This was a promotional film. Nobody was using backwards tambourine, very few bands even had facial hair. Not very many were using string backgrounds in this manner. Distorted vocals were very rare, too. Try some of their earlier music if you want to rock, but even then their harmonies and pop love songs were unlike anything else on the radio. As for the name, Strawberry Field was an orphanage where John played as a boy. Don't think you are quite ready for the dreamscape of A Day in the Life.

To put it into context The Beatles went from releasing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" in 1963 to releasing "Strawberry Fields" in 1967, with all the touring and promotional work in the interim it is mesmerising that such development could be achieved in such a short span of time.

there wasn't just Elvis back then, there was also Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent, Bill Haley and the Comets, all who the Beatles admired when they were teenagers and were influenced BY them. They covered some songs by Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly and others on their early albums and also during their sets when they were the local Liverpool band (before they were famous)

The mellotron at the beginning of this song is one of the first ever sampling machines as early as its original design was first patented in 1949 by American inventor Harry Chamberlin. He was apparently very strong-minded, i.e. he only wanted to do things whenever he wanted to. His window cleaner-turned-sales agent Bill Fransen got a deal for Chamberlin's design to made in larger quantities, but the latter wouldn't have it, so in the end Fransen pinched a couple and brought them to Bradmatic Ltd in Aston, England in 1962. There, three Bradley brothers and magician David Nixon formed the company Mellotronics (melody & electronics), with backing by bandleader Eric Robinson. Although the Graham Bond Organisation were among the very first to use the Mellotron on their song Baby Can It Be True, the Beatles were the first "prominent" band to use a MKII model with Paul playing the sampled flute intro. Subsequently, the instrument was used by bands/artists such as King Crimson, David Bowie, Yes, Genesis, OMD, Oasis, etc. Modern examples include Michael Jackson's Give In To Me and the Black Eyed Peas' Don't Phunk With My Heart. And it's still being used even today as the M4000D. 🙂

PEEING ON MY FLOWERS A little old lady was walking down the street dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. One of the bags was ripped and every once in awhile a $20 bill fell out onto the sidewalk. Noticing this, a policeman stopped her, and said, "Ma'am, there are $20 bills falling out of that bag." "Oh, really? Darn it!" said the little old lady. "I'd better go back and see if I can find them. Thanks for telling me, Officer." "Well, now, not so fast," said the cop. " Where did you get all that money? You didn't steal it, did you?" "Oh, no, no", said the old lady. "You see, my back yard is right next to a Golf course. A lot of Golfers come and pee through a knot hole in my fence, right into my flower garden. It used to really tick me off. Kills the flowers, you know. Then I thought, 'why not make the best of it?' So, now, I stand behind the fence by the knot hole, real quiet, with my hedge clippers. Every time some guy sticks his thing through my fence, I surprise him, grab hold of it and say, 'O.K., buddy! Give me $20 or off it comes!' "Well, that seems only fair," said the cop, laughing ."OK. Good luck! Oh, by the way, what's in the other bag?" "Not everybody pays."
