This was the song that got me hooked on classic music from the 60's-90's I was 6 when I heard this and I listened to it on repeat for 2 hours. My parents were genuinely concerned and when the asked me what I was doing I always said"I'm listening to God signing." Im not even joking. I was hooked on the Beatles.

When I was growing up in the 60's my father hated the Beatles (their long hair and he thought they were too radical) but he started liking them and singing some of their songs. One of them he loved was "strawberry fields". So, when he died a few years back we brought him home (with hospice) and I sat next to him, stroked his head and sang this song to him right before he slipped away in peace. I hope he was thinking of strawberry fields forever. :)

I was at my sister's house alone, when I was about 15 years old. I played this song several times, but the clamber of music at the end got to me. It nearly scared the dookey out of me! The first time it started, I ran out the front door into the yard. Every time afterwards, I took the needle off of the record before it started. I don't understand WHY it did that to me. But I have recently wondered if I didn't suffer from some degree of autism.

Age is not really the point, Charakter make the difference... aaaand..... you are 27 by now, young enough to gather a hundreds or thousands of experiences that is all that you would possibly can have with 66... thinking and doing is everything that you posess, everything else is not yours, not a piece of you.. not realy.

In his 1980 Playboy interview Lennon said this song was based on childhood experiences he had when standing before a full-length mirror, how he would "see his body disappearing" and felt (what he later learned was) a kind of childhood psychosis. It was his musical genius that brought out all of that in this song-that so magically and melodically describes it all. It always bugs me when ppl label John as the "idea guy", and Paul as the "melody guy." When in fact the melody of this song (and many others by Lennon, such as Sexy Sadie) are among the most melodic of all Beatles' songs; and Paul's Black Bird (and many others) have such great lyrics. And the other two: George, the most melodic and musical "lead guitarist" in rock history, unique in his sensitive fills to support the songs he accompanied (rather than over-powered as most lead guitarists in rock n roll do); and Ringo, the human metronome and one of the most eccentric, innovative drummers ever (like Charlie W is eccentric in a jazz/rock way). The Beatles: Four of the most genius ppl to come together in a single band, ever.

Tk, thing is, I remember the picture you're speaking of, but vaguely, as I was quite young when I was first introduced to the music of the Be-attles (again, pronunciation by John Lennon. When he wanted to deflate the balloon of myth and legend which surrounded the Fab Four, John would stretch out his natural Liverpudlian accent, turning the phonetic sound of the name into an inside joke, The Be Addles, as in 'of addled reason.) Now, as to the legend of Paul's death, his replacement, and so on...

For John Lennon, I believe, it was all about the lyric and he was a genius at painting images with words. Look at; "She's well acquainted with the touch of a velvet hand like a lizard on a window pane", the images pass through your mind like the carriage of a manual typewriter. Beautiful like great English literature and yet somewhat disturbing like Poe.

This is straight from the wiki page: "After reviewing the tapes of Martin's version and the original, Lennon told Martin that he liked both versions, although Martin had to tell Lennon that the orchestral score was at a faster tempo and in a higher key (B major) than the first version (A major).[28] Lennon said, "You can fix it, George", giving Martin and Emerick the difficult task of joining the two takes together."
