Sometimes music should challenge your comfort zones , even with The Beatles

This is superb- I love the structure and it is one of the most original Beatles videos on KZbin!

Thanks Mazzy, Such a fun video, and well thought out. I was thinking of "Strawberry Fields" as one of their great experimental songs. Cindy

Thank you for shouting out "Blue Jay Way". It's my favorite Beatles song💙 can you give more details on your pressing of Magical Mystery Tour?

It feels like I walked into A Scanner Darkly scene. Very experimental. The first time I heard Wonderwall, I was mystified, but it has grown on me.

As I’m watching this, I’m waiting to hear Scottie say, “Captain, the transporter beam is failing, I’m afraid we’re going to lose Mazzy…” Seriously, though, it’s great how you mess about with your videos, and of course, the content is always great. Light and entertaining while still informative. Some of the best VC videos out there! And yes, I’m pretty sure Emerick DID use Leslie speakers on Lennon’s voice on “Tomorrow Never Knows” (I believe Geoff said so in his book). As always, thanks Mazzy!

I always liked Revolution 9. It has a spooky quality to it that intrigued me as a kid of 13. As I grew older, I began to investigate other artists like the Godz on ESP Disk, and Pere Ubu's New Picnic Time. So yeah, the Beatles turned me on to Avant Garde and opened my mind to other forms of music. Didn't the Beatles do a sound collage titled Carnival of Light? Thanks for a great video

I have wonderful memories of "No Time in Space" (by George) being played in the middle of the night (back in the Summer of 1969) on FM underground station KZAP is Sacramento.

Anybody besides me feel slightly stoned after watching Mazzy filtered for 25 minutes and talking about experimental recordings?

Brilliant video Mazzy. So informative. Only one small point Gibraltar isn’t an island lol

Thanks again Mazzy - dig the filter. Thought you shortchanged Paul on his aural contributions, and George eventually took a swipe at Experimentals with his 'avant garde a clue' comment but hey, it's always a fun polemic. My version of a single White album would include #9.

Has anyone apart from the Beatles and associates, heard Carnival of Light? Paul has never given permission to release it as he thinks it’s not worthy of public consumption! You didn’t mention Across The Universe, it was first released on the charity LP No One’s Gonna Change Our World, for the World Wildlife Fund, in fact Spike Milligan on hearing it when he dropped into the studio in February 1968 suggested it should feature on that album, way before it was on the Let it Be album. To me one of the Beatles best songs! I would regard the song experimental at the time, also The Inner Light recorded around the same time! During this period they were pushing the boundaries of pop music to the next level imo!

I’m a big fan of the Lennon tracks on Some Time In NY, as well as Yoko’s Born in a Prison. Sunday Bloody Sunday and John Sinclair easily amongst his best tracks. I don’t care what the critics say. Live tracks on second disc are quite enjoyable as well

Kosh is a great designer. I think may have been award three Grammy awards for package design for Linda Ronstadt. Loved his design for her album cover. As usual a stellar video my friend.

if the only reason to like “Sometime In New York City” is because Nixon hated it, wouldn’t that be enough?😆 other topic, when you mentioned the Indian Music influence on the Beatles, i think i’m the only one who notices that back in the 50s Buddy Holly himself had a love song that was VERY Indian style. “Listen To Me” is VERY Indian to me. even Buddy was experimenting in the 50s but in a way where listeners back then didn’t realize it. Buddy was playing Indian music with American guitars and instruments. if ANYONE noticed that it was a young George Harrison.

The problem with solo Beatles is they didn't have other Beatles to tell them when they were being self indulgent. They were far better as a team than they were as individuals. They became so famous it was impossible for them to lead anything close to a real life and this must have had a serious effect on their songwriting. Lou Reed as a solo artist released a string of great albums throughout the 70s. Why not these guys? If only they had been able as a team every 3 years or so. A team of three equals, not Lennon and McCartney with the snotty attitude towards George.
