Probably my favorite song, from my favorite album. The harmonies, friendship, optimism, and Paul's fantastic walking bass warm my soul. Adding to the sweetness, Paul wrote the song for Ringo, and tailored it to his vocal range--he had to work to hit that last note. 🙂 I think the more your hear this track, the more you will like it. Paul's plays magnificently on this track--and the entire album. I often focus on just his bass. Thanks for doing Sergent Pepper, I hope you love it.

I got this album the week it came out. The first thing that hit me was the recording quality. It sounded so much richer, better than any thing before it. Then they upped that quality with the white album! I assume it was advances in studio equipment. It was '67 I think. And each song ran to the next one without a gap. That was a 1st for me too. Also, Ringo is left handed but had to learn on right handed kits. Part of his uniqueness I think.

Love the reaction. I never get tired of hearing this and when Ringo jumps up the octave to that E4, and it's really well supported, and he holds it, with all those incredible harmonies around it? Oh my God it's just great. The bridge pulls you up into the atmosphere to some degree, with those powerful backing vocals taking the lead, but when Ringo's voice comes back in on the answer parts, the chords and the composition and the rhythm and the words work together to insistently steer us right back to something very basic. He just wants someone to love.

Yes, Ringo probably didn't have the vocal versatility of a Joe Cocker, but Ringo's singing is very smooth with a nice register. Ringo gave a recent interview this year where he said John and Paul sprung this song on him at the end of the day's recording session because they both knew Ringo was a bit nervous about singing a lead vocal. But he did alright in this one! Ringo said he was nervous at the end because Paul was pushing Ringo to sing that last high note he holds to end the song, and said he was relieved that he got through that take.
