Groundbreaking song: June 25th 1967, The Beatles performed “All You Need Is Love” live, via satellite, to 400 million viewers in 25 countries. Captured at EMI Studios, the performance was part of the groundbreaking Our World TV production, which marked the first multinational production broadcast via multiple satellites.

This was the time of the very long outro. This is such a classic, but most reactors miss it. The weird time signature, the strings, etc, make it really interesting, but the melody of the verses and the chorus are very catchy indeed. When you hear "She Loves You" in the outro, you realize how far the Beatles traveled musically in just over 3 years.

5:39 What got me the most about this album is that several of the songs included in it were written during Sergeant Pepper, most notably Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane! I believe they were released as singles just before the album’s release and were just thrown on this album. In my opinion this album is pretty underrated… if I were to guess why many people wanted to skip it was because of the movie that came out with all the songs on the album. The album did pretty well but the movie became known for being The Beatles first big flop. But still, just imagine two of the weaker songs on Sergeant Pepper and replace them with Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. Sergeant Pepper is still known as one of the best albums ever made but imagine how crazy it would have been with those to songs!

When I see these two faces pop up in my reco's - you know it's going to be a good time! "this is a Beatles song" - YES! hahaha - it is! This song, first ever ANTHEM song in modern music, first ever satellite broadcast ever! The Beatles (wrote this song, shaped it, rehearsed it, recorded it, within days, hours, including the score), they didn't have weeks, months to prepare - AND - it's coming off the heals of Pepper. Imagine that pressure, your musical career is peaking, and now you have to create a song that meets their "peek" expectations, and present it to the world, over 400 millions viewers. The Beatles hit back to back Grand Slams (not HR's) with Pepper and All You Need is Love.

Originally it was 2 EPs from December 67 with the 6 songs of the movie soundtrack (in different order than on the LP) plus the singles: Hello Goodbye from Nov 67 (B Side was the soundtrack song I Am the Walrus), All You Need Is Love with Baby You're a Rich Man on the B side from July 67, and the pre-Sgt Pepper double A side single Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields which was recorded already in late 66. It is actually a trip back in time for one year with the newest recordings at the beginning and the oldest at the end of the record. That means that the album consisted of songs written and recodered during one year - the year that they also recorded the whole Sgt. Pepper album. 1968 would become an even busyier year in writing and recording for the double White Album plus the Lady Madonna and Hey Jude singles. The Yellow Submarine soundtrack songs released in January 69 on the other hand consisted of songs written and recorded in 66 and 67 except from Hey Bulldog which was the only contemporary song.

This wasn't really an official Beatles album - to begin with. In the UK the soundtrack to the MMT movie was released as an EP (extended play). But in the US Capitol Records decided to add in various singles and B sides to make a full LP (long play album). It was only in 1987 that this reconfigured version was added to the canon of official Beatles releases.

Everything on the album except Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane (non-album Sgt Pepper) was recorded following on from the Pepper sessions for the Magical Mystery Tour project. All Together Now and It's All Too Much from the Yellow Submarine ST album are from the same sessions. That album contains Only A Northern Song from Pepper but finished during Magical Mystery and Hey Bulldog recorded during the Lady Madonna Sessions Feb 68. Lady Madonna/The Inner Light single and Accross The Universe (re-recorded for Let It Be) were also Feb 68.Those tracks would be great to do first.

Love the musical allusions at the end, Glenn Miller big band sax intro of "In the Mood", snippets of them doing "She Loves You" and "Yesterday".
