I love this song. John Lennon’s voice is the best in rock history, to me, and the harmonies are so tight. (Love the cow bell)

Listen to that crowd screaming! It's been measured at a decibel level equal to being on top of a jet airliner at an airport! Unbelievable! I don't think crowds have ever been that loud before or since!

Billy Preston, in an interview in the 80's called John "the boss Beatle". You can see just what kind of a band leader he is in this song.

Paul and George are having so much fun singing backup with such big smiles on their faces they're doing everything they can just to stop from breaking down laughing and keeping performing! Clearly at this stage they were just having so much fun being the Beatles! And we're still having so much fun all of these years later. . .60 years later. . .watching them!!!

Some people argue that the Beatles weren't a great live band, but that's BS. At the height of their prime, they absolutely kicked ass on stage, the way the greatest band of all time should.

Most of the guitar work on this track is by John Lennon, including the solo part. The Australia/New Zealand tour in 1964 is one of the most spectacular of all time. A total of 600,000 people greeted the Beatles at receptions in the 8 cities of the tour.

Between John letting out that scream in the middle of the song and the screaming of the crowd in response, I feel like my body is being electrocuted by a high power electric line! So much raw energy in this performance!!!!

It is amazing that back in the day they did not have proper live performance sound systems, and often times they couldn't hear themselves above the screaming crowd that had the decibel levels of a jet aircraft. Yet you can hear (with I am going to say some work on the original recording of this performance-hence the title at the beginning "HD Beatles") just how tight and perfect they sounded as a live performance group on this. Ultimately they would lose heart with live performance because of these technical challenges, and after their last live concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29th 1966, they would thereafter become a studio-only band, with the exception of a couple of live television performances and, of course, their famous rooftop performance on the roof of their Apple offices in downtown London in January of 1969. Though in the short term, they now had time in the studio to work on their music, and could now hear themselves and work on improving their musicianship, the lack of the discipline that only performing live can provide a band would take its toll slowly over the next nearly four years on the band's chemistry, and the four lads from Liverpool would slowly drift apart from each other. Paul McCartney realized this and in 1969 it was his attempt with the "Get Back" recording sessions to try to return the band to its early live performing roots. But by then, so many other factors were straining the band beyond its capacity: the death of their manager Brian Epstein of an accidental drug overdose in 1967 (he had handled all of the business transactions, allowing them simply to be artists), the resultant mess of their new company Apple and the deteriorating finances of the band, John Lennon's terrible heroin addiction from 1968 onwards, the struggle between John Lennon and the other three Beatles to try to work his new girfriend and later wife Yoko Ono into the band (Ringo to John: "Oh, come on, John-she's NEVER going to be a Beatle!"). As well, each one of them were moving into their own specific music interests outside of the Beatles. And the final nail in the coffin for the band was the internal struggle to replace their deceased manager Brian Epstein with the unsavory and predatory Allen Klein. John, George and Ringo voted him to be the manager with the Beatles; Paul McCartney refused to sign the agreement, and for the first time the four of them were no longer united. It was the kiss of death for the band. But at least early on with this live performance, their amazing chemistry as a band was on full display. They were still having fun at this point in their career.

I was a mear twinkle in my father's eye when this all happened, but from what I've heard from others there around that time, your reaction when you were listening was what happened then with everyone, big smile and very good to listen to and a bit transporting, a little 3 minute holiday from life. As artists, job done, what more can you expect from your work. What makes them great artists was the frequency and consistency they did this for people. And still today for new discoverers.

G'day folks. An excellent choice, mate. The crowd seems rather subdued in retrospect; although in the South Australian capital city of Adelaide half the entire population turned out to welcome them at the time. A little before my own time, but I am still a huge fan.

Everywhere they played, they were mobbed. Eventually, they did videos instead, because the shrieking crowds made it impossible for them to hear eachother.

OMG, how did you get to see them 23 times?! Are you talking about 1963 and earlier? When I was a little kid in the 60's, it was my biggest dream in the world to see The Beatles in person. The Monkees too, and even though they came to my city, my parents weren't about to spend the 4 dollars to let a 7 year old kid go to a concert. Haha! Cheers!

@dggydddy59 Living in London there were many opportunities to see them in the early 60's. Several times we went to 3 concerts a week, with about only 10 miles to travel. The tickets were about £5 then, which was a little under a weekly wage. We used to save all our money by walking 6 miles to work and back! I probably went to 300 concerts over the years. They were a support act at many of the shows. Royal Albert Hall saw the Rolling Stones as top act.
