One of my top favorite Beatle songs. It is John singing lead with Paul on the harmony. As always, Ringo drum pattern is stellar on this song.

The Beatles walked down the hall of music knocking down doors on either side that opened up new fields for other bands to go in to explore. They made pop music into an art form that showed everyone that anything was possible. They explored all kinds of genres and combinations of genres and pushed the boundaries of the recording studio. As Alice Cooper said, "Everybody was influenced by somebody, but I think everybody was influenced by The Beatles." One of the many amazing things about The Beatles is how quickly they evolved in such a short time. As Elvis Costello said, "Every record was a shock when it came out. Every single was an event.” Or, as Ozzy Osbourne called them, “The Greatest Band To Ever Walk The Earth!”

Exactly. Great quote by Costello (hella songwriter himself) more succinct and direct than when I try to say same 😎 When the needle touched the vinyl every first time, the anticipation was both excruciating and delicious 🤣 and the incredible, unbelievable, miraculous thing was: they NEVER disappointed. In fact WE had to catch up to where they were, and they never stopped moving. ❤️

Usually the person who contributed the majority of the song’s lyrics, was the person who sang lead on the record. So on Ticket to Ride, John must have been the major contributor. They truly were musical geniuses. Thank you for your great reactions. 👏👏🥰

It was 1965, The Beatles took popular music to the next level with this song, they matured the music scene by a decade. I can argue it was he first ever power ballad. After '65 music would explode and take a leap so fast that every month was a like a decade of time. And The Beatles were plowing the way, as the lead plow.

If you think about it you’ll realize the Beatles kept a lot of their own songs from becoming #1 by already having another song at #1. They could have easily doubled their number of #1 hits or more. What the Beatles did cannot and will not ever be duplicated!

I'm slightly older than you. I'm male and was born in 1956 in Liverpool. A few years ago I had to have some radiotherapy in Clatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral (I'm all clear now). Volunteer drivers used to pick me up and drop me off every day Monday to Friday. One of them was a woman about 10 years older than me and she told me she used to go and watch The Beatles rehearsing in Pete Best's mum's house (I think it was in West Derby village?) before they were famous. She never liked The Beatles and the only reason she used to go and watch them was because she fancied Pete Best's brother...I never met any of The Beatles but my mum reckoned she was on a lift with Paul once. We lived on the 15th floor of a block of flats in Sheil Road and my mum came in from work one day and told me that Paul McCartney had been in the lift with her. I was a bit sceptical at first but when my mum told some other residents about it she was told that Paul had an uncle living in one of the flats, so I suppose it could be true.

One of my favorites from the older Beatles days (mid 60s). Yes, John singing lead. This is one of many songs featured in their movie "HELP!" (1965). If you haven't seen it it's worth checking out. ALSO, do check out their previous film "A Hard Days Night" (1964). Both essentially feature-length music videos, with dialogue. Can't put the Beatles in any genre but their own! They were influenced by many, primarily American blues and early (50s) rock-and-roll. If you listen to their albums from the beginning to the end (Abby Road and Let it Be were the last two albums) you'll see more clearly the evolution of their creative genius as a group. I also suggest taking a glance at their Wiki page, for some basic info. Several documentaries out there also. THanks for your thoughtful reactions!

1965 was the year popular music changed, and that change was led by the Beatles. Take a look at the albums they put out that year; rock split in a number of new genres led by the Beatles: progressive rock, country rock, psychedelic rock... 1965 through 1967 are three incredible years because of the creativity of the Beatles. They ceased touring in 1966 and began using the recording studio in new ways, developing expansive techniques with primitive resources that later were developed into marketed machinery that anyone could use. They really moved past the 4-track basic recording to multi-track sophistication. They utilized guitar feedback, tape loops, backward audio, unique orchestration, sitar, and more. But the turning point was 1965 "Help" and "Rubber Soul". Then came "Revolver", then "Sgt Pepper".

The '1' album was made up of number one hits from around the world and some people are astonished that they attained that number of No. 1 records in such a short time span, BUT, the album was not made up of all their number one hits, just some of them. When you say they had 20 number ones, you have to remember that the 20 No. 1's was only a record in the US. They had more/different number ones with other songs in other countries.

There are two covers of Beatles songs that are worthy of mention. With A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker, which I think is actually better than the original, and Ticket To Ride by the Carpenters, which is just as good in it’s own way, but does not replace the original. You really can’t go wrong with The Beatles. It’s true every song is different, but you can always tell it’s the Beatles and they are almost always wonderful. Only a handful of songs are mediocre.
