GWR Bench is there because GWR used to run the Cambrian Coast Line, during the days of Steam you could had got a train from London Paddington to Pwllheli. Great video and looking forward to more

Shortly before I moved to New Zealand, I took my wife (she's a Kiwi) for a trip round Wales. That was so good. I'm glad I showed her (and reminded myself) of that beautiful country.

Loved this, not least because I did the Cambrian coast line for the first time less than two weeks ago! Did the same walk, but in reverse from Llandecwyn to Penrhyndeudraeth. Great video Jen.

The southern part of the Cambrian coast railway would be great for a car v train race! The train tracks cross the road several times near Glan yr Afon, Llanbadarn Fawr and Aberystwyth. Great to see you near my neck of the woods!

Travelled the length of the Cambrian in July and stayed in Porthmadog so went to the station a lot - how it doesn't have a ticket machine is beyond me! Will miss the 158s when they go though :( Crakcing video though Jen!

I like the way the announcer has given a very precise Welsh pronunciation to all the stations, pwfilli. I can't begin to imagine how that's pronounced! Great video Jen!

W is an oo sound. LL is the sound you hear when you say the L in the word "antler". Put the tip of your tongue on your front teeth just like you would when saying an L, then breathe out, round the sides of your tongue. It's unvoiced, just like an F is the unvoiced version of the V position.

Most of the stations used to have passing loops, hence the two platforms. Cearsws however, only had one, to use the passing loop the train had to reverse back, the loop being the other side of the road crossing.

I went to Cricieth / Criccieth when I was five years old and we rented a holiday let - it was half a big house and the owners lived in the other half. We travelled on the Ffestiniog Railway and walked in Snowdonia (we also visited great uncle wilf who had retired to Colwyn Bay) The stand out moments were encountering a boy my age who only spoke Welsh - it was memorable as was the Ffestiniog Railway.

Llandecwyn station comes into its own on a clear night - sitting in that modern shelter, you get the biggest panoramic view of the stars \m/

Travelled on this line this Easter, whilst staying at Hafan Y Mor, which is next to Penychan station (our first ever request stop!). It's a wonderful line, could do with more trains though (especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays which are holiday park change over days, the teains were a little busy then)

The line was double tracked originally so that could have been an island platform! Happened to spot the disused platform at Penychain, hidden in the undergrowth!

​@@JenOnTheMovealso, we did visit Criccieth Castle, it's a small castle (especially in relation to Conway and Carnarthon) however it has lovely views of the town and beach. If I remember we also got the first train North back (it was a Sunday), and we sat on that bench with a drink whilst we waited. Ahhh, memories!

A lovely vlog! Criccieth (Cricieth) is one of my favourite places. You should have had an ice-cream from Cadwaladers after your lunch! For many years, I helped run a Christian youth camp in a cliff-top field just to the west of the town. We had a superb view south down Cardigan Bay and east towards the castle. On a good day, we could see Snowdon, and across the bay to Harlech Castle.

'Porthmadog' is actually pronounced 'Port Madoc' as the town took its name from its founder, William Maddox. Also, Penrhyndeudraeth is pronounced 'pen-rin-dew-dreth'.

I will assume all of the recording has happened already, however if it hasn't, I am more than willing to give suggestions for things to see, do and places to eat. To answer about the purpose of Llandecwyn: dunno about the past but today the few houses and the hiking area are probably the only use.

Agreed, but didn't there used to be an explosives(!) siding at Penryhndeudraeth? Where was that? Unless I have got it wrong.

@@robertwilloughby8050 Yes, Cookes explosives to the East of the station, latterly ICI. Closed in 1990's and now the Gwaith Powdwr Nature Reserve. I can't find any evidence it was rail connected, but I have a photo showing gunpowder vans in the sidings.

Just found my Cookes track plans and there was an Explosives Siding Ground Frame between Penrhyndeudraeth & Llandecwyn (roughly where Gwynedd Environmental Waste Services is now). Opened 1917 for Ministry of Munitions, out of use 1933, removed by 1943.

I'm gonna keyboard warrior the other way. 'Train station' is absolutely fine, and if you disagree you're being a pointless pedant. It's a station, there are trains there. Language reflects usage, it doesn't adhere to restrictive rules imposed by busybodies who have little going on in their lives.

From the age of the sign, it's unlikely that they'd have had any _to bach_ in that sign maker's alphabet. Until fairly recently you would see improvised circumflexes of various types on even major routes. Gwynedd for many years used Helvetica instead of the official Transport font on road signs, possibly for this very reason.
