Personally liked the 2015-2016 spurs team better, Aldridge was integrated beautifully and he wasn't exposed on defense cos 40 yr old Duncan was still so effective in the paint. Manu TP9 were aging but stll contributed. But the biggest factor (other than LaMarcus) was Kawhi's emergence as a superstar, dude lit the league cos he's so good both ways. 2014 team was fantastic, but 2015-2016 could've won a chip any other year (OKC series was reallly close, and GSW was having a once in a lifetime season)
@theartofcompetition59656 жыл бұрын
i dont know about all that . but they were in the zone as one unit like i have never seen before. That was literally the finest basketball i have ever seen and the best passing i have ever seen, and the best display of teamwork i have ever seen. It was mostly just being in the zone. and you can tell that was the reason because the next year they tapered off quite a bit. it was because the year before they lost to the heat barely and it really really really stung them. there is like a whole documentary on it i seen before.
@theartofcompetition59656 жыл бұрын

as a side note. when people talk about lebron losing to the spurs this year. i find it ridiculous. when they blame lebron for losing to this spurs team in 2014. it kind of illustrates where a lot of people get misguided when having the goat conversation. a lot of people consider wins and losses when having the goat conversation and its so ridiculous. this is a team sport. the difference between lebron, or jordan etc is so minuscule. and the 2014 spurs team shows you how much more relevant the team you play on and the competition you face is. In my opinion duncan should be in the goat conversation. if the difference between kobe , lebron, and jordan is miniscule than (duncans leadership) being able to make all the other 12 players on your team minuscule better. to keep it simple look at it like this. kobe avg 27 points per game, tim duncan 23. a difference of 4 points. but duncan makes everyone on his team score 2 extra points where kobes teamates only score 1 extra point ( if that he was a poor leader imo) then thats +12 points to kobes 27 for a total of 39 and plus 24 to duncans 23 for a total of 45

Let's face it this is the best team the NBA has ever seen. The NBA promotes superstars like Jordan and Lebron as they rake in revenue from clothing and shoes (like a lot of $$$) The spurs didn't do that for them so they are not mentioned and promoted quite as much. This team won the finals by 70 points...that's 70 point differential! ... Before that they beat Portland by 67 and Oklahoma City(with Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka and Adams by a point differential of 63. This is beyond amazing. These point differences tell the story of this team more than regular stats.

This the best team in NBA history. There might have been better players (Jordan Kobe LeBron) but never a better team.
@aurelienfroment35783 жыл бұрын
@Chris Williams The thing is that in a way they did something never seen before... If we speak of iconic teams in NBA history : There was the 60s Celtics which were dominant as hell. There was the Showtime from the Lakers and their superstars leaded by Magic. The 80s Celtics were strong as hell being able to attack defend against any given team and/or superstar. There was the 94 Knicks which were (in my opinion) one of the greatest defense ever created. The Bulls during the second three peat were the same as the 80s Celtics : dominant in offense, strong in defense, well balanced between the two sides etc... The lakers of early 2000 decade were dominant, mostly thanks to Shaq inside and the young Kobe. The Heat of early 2010 were incredible through their capacity of playing high quality and clever defense and good offense through their superstars. The Warriors of 2016 (for the regular season) and 2017 were so dominant, defensively and offensively with their ability to play small ball, shoot 3s consistently etc... But the 2014 Spurs were the "first" time in history we saw a team being so selfless, able to create better chance of shoots each and every possession only by moving the ball. Whenever it was hard, the previously cited teams would get the ball to their go-to guy and go away (KAJ, Bird or Parish, MJ, Kobe or Shaq, Lebron or Wade, KD or Steph etc...). So in a way, it was the first ever team to play full team-basketball and at a high level or consistency and IQ. So I understand why some people say they are the best "team" since all great teams from history are addition of great players without real heart (i'm not saying Duncan, Ginobili, Parker or Kawhi are not great players ^^). PS : Celtics 88 are not the best Celtics team in my eyes, I prefer the 86 one :)

Not a spurs fan, but passing through. IMO teams don't emulate this because it would hurt production for some players on the stat sheet leading to smaller future contracts. This is what the Spurs need to go back to, this is what has made them championship contenders and the most successful organization of any sport for the last 20 years straight. I hope seeing how dismantled they became when Kawhi went down in game one of the WCF against the Warriors was a wake up call on how they went from the system to a one man team. I have watched the Spurs for decades and have never seen it where if one man goes down then so does the whole team, not even with the big 3 at their prime. I really hope they go back to this kind of basketball, no more just relying in one man to carry them. That's not the Spurs I know, even with the greatest power forward to play the game in Tim Duncan.

I grew up hating the Spurs, I thought they were a boring team in the era of Kobe & Shaq's Lakers. But as I've matured and grown to appreciate the strategy of the game, I find myself rooting for the Spurs in the West. Kawhi Leonard is such an understated hero of the game, and Pops has done more with less star power than any coach I've ever seen. Long live the extra pass.

All I can do is reminisce of the great times of watching my Spurs play... never will it be the same again. I'm glad to have lived and see the Spurs play with Tim, Manu, and Tony. GO SPURS GO!!!

This ‘14 team is what made me a spurs fan. These guys had a true passion for the game.

This makes me so emotional. Even though I am not a Spurs fan I think its just so amazing how great this team was. It is just so sad how most of this 2014 Spurs team's players have left or retired. I can safely say this was one of the best NBA teams of all time

I know no one will see this, but I watched the NBA finals for the first time in 2014, and this team made me fall in love with basketball. Thank you Spurs.

Man Splitter was so important to this team...forgot about that sometimes

Never ever forget THE GOLDEN GENERATION of Manu with the Argentina National Team who beat a Dream Team for the first time. And they made it passkng the ball just trying to take the best shot possible. In fact, that is what basketball and football is all about.

The 2014 Spurs were the perfect team. The big three shouldering the load and kawhi as some kind of x-factor. Plus some of the leagues best bench and role players (like danny green).

Had the spurs won it in 13, Timmy would be my FMVP, he was mythical in that series

This team set the standard for how the current era of baseball should be played, every time a new world champion team is declared the rest of the league changes subtly to mirror the success of the league champs. This team is the reason why ball movement and player movement is so emphasized in the league today, sure it was around for a while prior to this but these guys perfected it.

I mean they beat lebron Miami's at it's best on 5! And they only lost to them into a 7 game! That tells you how amazing these spurs were . I have them over the warriors on 6

xNBAChamp facts what pisses me off is the Clippers took out the Spurs that year and chokes to Houston . Should of been SAS vs GSW

This Spurs team has the record at winning the finals by 70 points...the Warriors best team won at their best by 60 points(2nd best). so yes....the 2014 Spurs would most likely have beaten the 2017 Warriors with Durant by a few points per game maybe around 6 pts. And both times both teams happened to play against a team with Lebron on it. Lebron said twice that 2014 Spurs were the best team he ever played against and the second time he said that was after the 2017 finals.

Cain Shin It's because Kawhi was shaped into the ultimate Spur. A two-way forward capable of lockdown D and unstoppable scoring. He is an excellent team player and all around reliability makes him a perfect player to surround with decent roleplayers.

Imagine having 4 HOFs on one team that played team ball like this?!? This is unheard of. The way they played in the finals they could have beaten any team that has won before.

My favorite BBal vid of all time. I wish the silver and black could get back to this way of playing, but I'm thinking we'd have to clone another Timmy.
