If you want you Egg layers safe, build a Walled Coop just for them. Click the Pen marker and clear all, then select only birds for it. Also put at least 2 Troughs in it. Yes you want a minimum of 110 Animal Feed for the herd size you got.

omg. Brand new chicken wandering off and getting eaten gave me dark flashbacks to playthroughs before they added methods of protecting chickens without needing to build a full castle around them.

You need to setup clothing profiles for summer/winter so you can easily switch them and they will auto equip as needed
