This Jagannath temple of Kolkata is located in the Khidirpur area. , Such a big Jagannath temple which is modeled after the Jagannath temple in Puri and is located very close to us in Kolkata. Earlier The temple was built with the hard work and financial help of many people. Maha Prabhu Sri Jagannath Dev, Sri Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Sudarshan Chakra are traditionally worshipped in this temple.
On the right side of the entrance to the temple, you will find the temple of Bot Mangal Devi, where Mother Mangala is worshipped daily.
About the temple, it is known that in 1969, workers in the port area started worshipping Jagannath Dev with a picture of Jagannath Dev in a small tin house.
in 1968 the local people thought of building a temple and thus donations were collected for the construction of the temple.
It also came to know from the history that Mr S. Rahman, an official of Calcutta port at that time, contributed 2000 rupees to the construction of the temple in that initial period. A 20-foot-high temple was built in 1969 with all the money collected, this was the first attempt to make a temple.
After that the foundation stone was laid in 1999 and worshipers from Jagannath Temple of Puri came to lay the foundation.
This temple is built exactly like the Jagannath temple of Puri. Aruna pillar is at the main lion door of the temple.
18 feet above the Aruna pillar you can see the Garuda pillar, and right in front of it is the main door of the temple. This is why the place is called Srikhetra or Jagannath Dham of Calcutta.
Inside the temple, you can see Sri Jagannath Dev, Sri Balabhadra Devi Subhadra and Sudarshan Chakra.
The temple has a DOS OBOTAR image of Lord Vishnu on a world-class white sandstone MARBLE.
The four sides of the main temple are carved with images of Shri Ganesha, Dabha Saraswati, Mahavira Hanuman, Surya Narayana, Maa Vimala, Maa Lakshmi, and Shiva.
The temple is open for devotees on all days of the week. However, the visiting hours are from 6 am to 1 pm and again from 4 pm to 9 pm.
Also, maha prasad bhog is offered twice daily in the temple - once at 1 pm and again at 8 pm. Maha Prasad Bhog's ticket price is 150 per head.
