Hey am sure you probably have already seen this movie but can you do The Beauty of Beasts of no nation. It's most definitely one of the most underrated movies of 2010s. Idris Elba performance is on par with Captain Kurtz and am not saying that lightly. He makes subtle touches to show the evil on the character. Cary Fukunaga directed and wrote the movie and also did true detective.

I'm a camera nerd. I've done a big part of my university training studying lenses, camera sensors, how light interact with glass, ya know that sort of things. This is what makes me love cinema so much, spotting the little imperfections of the hardware that get amplified on the big screen like sensor dust, lens dust, not perfect focus pulls, chromatic aberrations, color fringing, lens flares and lens ghosting... And when I watch an animated stuff, well with animation you don't have a camera at all, that's a vitual thing that you move in your render. The camera is perfect in every sense of the word and that makes it boring for a camera nerd like me. I've watched Arcane a first time, and didn't really notice anything, I really got drawn into the story that I didn't even looked at the scenery and all the details that I would normally check watching a movie. And oh boy was I right to watch it again a second time. They actually SIMULATED a damn lens. You can see focus pulls and depth of field, with an actual focus breathing effect, you can see lens dust when a light is directly pointed at the camera, you can see a shift in focus when there's a zoom or a de-zoom because they wanted to give us the feeling of a lens that isn't parafocal. This is completely unecessary and over the top, but is a good way, that actually shows the love that has been poured into Arcane. This is my favourite show to date and I definetly can't wait for a season 2. Enough tlaking, I gotta watch it a 5th time...
@julient.63113 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that what make this show soooo different its all the unseen details, all the tiny works in all frame that seems unecessary but combined all together make a HUGE difference ! Fortiche remind us that Animation is an Art, and an Art have to be handcrafted. This show is pure love and passion. Passion and love takes times. But the result is OUT OF THIS WORLD and goes far beyond the restrictive "Animation" category
@takahashierik3 жыл бұрын
There's some great camerawork in animation, watch Nerdwriter's video on Toy Story 4. Or watch Surf's Up and see how they simulated a handheld camera to have a documentary feel. Or Love Death + Robots. It's not every movie of course but there's lots of great stuff
@matthieuzglurg60153 жыл бұрын
@@takahashierik yeah I watched those and I can definetly tell the "camera work" is on point. Did not got drawn in the story as much as Arcane though, especially for Toy Story 4. They took a similar approach in Spiderverse too, but that's mostly depth of field effects, and chromatic abberations more than anything else, lens defects like ghosting don't really fit the comicbook look of the movie (though this time the story really got me!) When I was talking "animation", I was moslty talking of Japanese animation where the lens simulation part is generally thrown out the window to focus on composition and field of view (and because generally there is so much story to tell they don't really have the time to fiddle with those things that most people won't notice anyway)
@takahashierik3 жыл бұрын
@@matthieuzglurg6015 True. And most japanese animation is 2D so they don't have as much freedom to play with 3D cameras, though that's starting to change with productions like Beastars and Lupin the First. Also their style tends to be less grounded in reality. I'm more of an animation nerd so I come from a different perspective than yours, but it's fun to learn about this stuff

You know that every scene serves a purpose and there aren’t any annoying fillers. And they even gave the side characters like Marcus or Singed interesting background stories and personalities instead of making them boring and tools for plot convenience. Arcane while being an animated show, something about it feels real. I would even put it like a blend between realistic drama tv-series and animated, there's just something different about it, I'm not quite sure or maybe it's just in my head. I just want it to get more of a"realistic" drama, more "academy-like", like shows that I love like Breaking Bad, Narcos, Game of Throne first 4 seasons, Peaky Blinder,... not like those goofy friendly animated series like Avatar or any superheroes stuff or anime manga. While sometimes I love goofy or edgy stuff like the other type of animated I mentioned, I still longed for a realism drama storytelling animated show.

Thank you ❤️❤️❤️ I was just about to get cured of post-series depression from watching Arcane. And this was an acid trip for me. It seems I'm still not over the ending.

2:30 I just realised that the fact that Mel covered her painting in gold instead of any other color kind of acts as foreshadowing for her becoming more and more covered in gold, and finally entirely so at the end of season 2

3D animated movies by the big studios like Pixar and Dreamworks look really good and are technically impressive, but they all started to look really "samey" to me over the years. Not that the styles of each movie is exactly the same, but they're similar enough to where it can look a bit boring to me. Stuff like Into the Spiderverse and Arcane really increase my appreciation for 3D animation though. They are stylized in such cool, interesting, and beautiful ways. Arcane is the most beautiful 3D animated series I've ever seen. I wouldn't say Arcane is technically more impressive than a Pixar or Dreamworks movie, but its art style is much more appealing to me than those movies, so it looks a lot better to me than whatever Pixar or Dreamworks has made in recent years. I think this series is worth watching for the eye candy alone, but thankfully, it also has a great story and characters.

This is such a beautiful video to watch, and I gotta say the music choice for Arcane was amazing. Loved all the songs that were played in the show but this one hits different, like it feels like jinx is saying goodbye to powder her younger self or maybe Vi in a way. I only think that since it plays at the end of ep 3 after she thinks Vi left her and when silco takes her in as a daughter. 😳

I don’t know anything about league of legends and I don’t even like it but this is one of the best series I’ve seen in years everything in the story is connected and they display the hate and sadness jinx is going through very well.
