Do you think Oliver was any less heartbroken, having to leave Elio ? I believe his commitments back in the States meant he had to return - he was a very young man with family and work making demands on him, he was expected to fulfil those obligations. Believe me, I’ve cried every bit as much over the film, the beautiful audio book and Armie’s beautiful voice, and hoping to see their reunion

There's just something about this film...the languorous summer atmosphere, the idyllic rural Italian setting, the burgeoning love between its two protagonists...that I've not been able to shake since I saw it for the first time three years ago. Films are supposed to transport us to another time and place and indeed, they often do, but this one doesn't so much as transport as it makes you feel EXACTLY what its characters are going through. Every touch, every breath, every bit of sunlight hitting their skin...it's magical and EVERY time watching it is like watching it for the first time. I love it. A pure evocation of the tragic beauty of a fleeting summer romance in a lush foreign setting.

I am a straight male and never thought I would watch a film like this. But I had heard nothing but great things about this movie so, being a lover of cinema, I finally watched it for the first time tonight. I am awestruck. This movie just GETS what infatuation and strong romance FEELS like, in film form. Everything from the direction, the performances, the cinematography, the musical score, the sounds of nature in the countryside, this movie just feels so dreamlike and yet, everything feels so real. So raw. So powerful. This movie just highlights how low effort most of the romance films are today. It’s been hours since the end credits rolled and I’m STILL thinking about this film. Bravo to all involved in getting this film to the cinemas.

Oh, to see without my eyes The first time that you kissed me Boundless by the time I cried I built your walls around me White noise, what an awful sound Fumbling by Rogue River Feel my feet above the ground Hand of God, deliver me Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me The first time that you touched me Oh, will wonders ever cease? Blessed be the mystery of love Lord, I no longer believe Drowned in living waters Cursed by the love that I received From my brother's daughter Like Hephaestion, who died Alexander's lover Now my riverbed has dried Shall I find no other? Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me I'm running like a plover Now I'm prone to misery The birthmark on your shoulder reminds me How much sorrow can I take? Blackbird on my shoulder And what difference does it make When this love is over? Shall I sleep within your bed River of unhappiness Hold your hands upon my head 'Til I breathe my last breath Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me The last time that you touched me Oh, will wonders ever cease? Well, I just hope that one day, your 17 year old son or daughter will fall "in love" with say her high school teacher, and does it behind your back....so yeah, dont forget to come back here and comment back how you'd feel ok. @@reezabaca You're an idiot and a homophobe. Did you have the same reaction to Dirty Dancing, with Baby being 17, and Johnny being 24, the same ages as Oliver and Elio? Elio was played by a 20 year old, and playing a 17 year old is past the age of consent. So no jail time. GROW UP.

@@leehartlee2970 So let me guess, my arguments are actually beyond your grasp? I could care less about the actors, its the story and the essence of the movie that I didn't approve of because obviously it is as I said predatory in nature and definitely rape in the eyes of an ordinary person, that this is being personified and normalized. As far as homophobia - well, if its perfectly ok with you with having a high school teacher copulating with say your future son - then call me homophobic...but LOL. I hope it really happens to you so you can feel if its still ok.

After being so enchanted by this movie all i wanted to do was to go and experience the same feeling. I ended up travelling and volunteering trough France and Italy all summer. When in Italy i volunteered for this lovely family, in the beautiful village of Apricale, yes in northern Italy :) I got to know their culture, met other volunteers, went for endless walks under the endless sun, swimmed at the river and had some of the best dinners ever. It was so cool to experience all this and i really recognized the vibes from the movie!! the careless summer days where all you have to do is to enjoy the sun, as if time seems to stand still. I made memories which i will carry with me for the rest of my life. Italy and France are truly beautiful. I didn't have the whole love affair but it still felt like my own little cmbyn story haha!

After 3 years I can say Elio should be 58, not 56. Because it's supposed to be 17 years old in 1983 (born in 1966), if I'm not mistaking. By the way Guadagnino was born in 1971.

the movie lost me with the casting...as a gay man, the thought of an older guy with a teenager always makes me queasy/nervous....we all get accused of chasing teenagers. The characters were 24 and 17. That age difference is toe on the line creepy, but the fact that they cast a man who looked about 16 opposite another who looked 35. DEFINITELY creepy.

So because gay people get accused of chasing teenagers, gay people have to comply to those double standards and act accordingly in order to not become the victim of vicious and false accusations by bigots!? Because that's what you are litterally implying! It's like saying, oh feminists are always seen us ugly, men-hating hags, that's why as a woman we have to avoid to be seen as feminists and act accordingly! What a dangerous conclusion! Also, Tim is now 28 and still looks like a teenager, it's just his body type and youthful appearance but according to you he shouldn't act as a love interest for older looking people because it makes you uncomfortable! That says more about you than it says about the movie! Also this happens all the time in real life and no one cares, because it's noones business! Taylor Swift dated Harry Styles when she was 23 and he was 18 and noone thinks this is problematic! Why?
