An adventure and journey through the world that is Middle Earth. The world JRR Tolkien created and imagined, and the world Peter Jackson brought to life, along with the countless others who worked on the films. The music Howard Shore wrote. These films are an emotional journey that is filled with so many strong emotions, such as laughter and sorrow. You just can’t beat it. Doesn’t matter how many times I see these films, they never get old. Unlike anything else that has ever been made, and unlike anything else that I’ve ever seen. So beautiful and so fucking great. And, to your point, there is every kind of emotion to be found in the movies (books as well, but I'm a bit rusty). The highest highs and lowest lows. From, peace in the shire, to chaos in the siege of minas tirith. Fear and dread in the Nazgul, to resolve in "for Frodo." Despair when Frodo takes the ring, to hope when the eagles appear. Grief when Theoden dies with Eowyn, to joy when Aragorn is coronated. Hate, love, life, death, blessing, cursing, laughter, tears, it's all present throughout the story. It's quite amazing.

If you ever read the opening chapter of the Silmarillion, you will read some of the finest prose ever written. In all fairness, Peter Jackson wasn’t even originally supposed to direct the Hobbit. Del Toro was and he backed out of the project, leaving a mess of things for Peter Jackson to piece together by request of Warner Bros. The studio also pressured the team into doing a lot of the things (stretching it into three movies) that they otherwise wouldn’t have. I’m not solely blaming it on any one individual but I think the studio interfered a lot with the Hobbit trilogy because of the LOTR’s success and greed as a result.

As a huge starwars fan specifically starwars prequels, but with huge respect for the original trilogy, i have to admit LOTR saga including hobbit, (especially extended editions of all 6 films,) cannot be topped. They are in my opinion unrivaled perfection.

Same. I've been a star wars fan since childhood but ever since I saw lotr 4 years ago I was absolutely amazed, I wondered why I only watched these movies now, but I'm glad I did. I'm now a tolkien nerd who has read lotr, hobbit, silmarillion and the book of lost tales.

This trilogy is an emotional, therapeutic journey with great potential of self-discovery and even healing trauma (at least for me, as I love to analyse art and see similarities with our world a lot). I recently watched it for the first time in cinema (didnt get to see it as a kid there sadly) and it was such a therapeutic experience. I saw myself in so many characters and situations, saw even parallels to our current world, like when Theoden is controlled by Saruman, the same our leading politicians do just the bidding of someone even more powerful. It was a better experience than any therapy session! I could spend some time with the painful emotions but didn't get stuck in them as it happens every time when I am by myself and try to meditate... Here, with these films, a new, more joyous scene comes and suddenly I feel much better. Howard Shore's music is immensely powerful and healing. I hear the first two seconds of his music and immediately get goosebumps or tears in my eyes. He portrayed everything from chaos, horror and despair to hope, peace and joy. The music is so transcendental, as if out of this world. And that's talking just mainly about music and screenplay... I didn't mention the cinematography, great acting, New Zealand's beauty as well as the production design... Everything is just perfect. Films like these probably happen just once in a lifetime. Even though I wish with my whole heart something comes at least pretty close to the quality and depth of the Lord of the Rings. It's literally one of the best things in my life. Gave me hope and purpose when everything else was dark. The films were for me the same as the Light of Aerendil for Frodo! "May it be a light for you in dark places when all other lights go out." Such a meaningful scene for me, that probably doesn't get a lot of credit from most, but that's great! Everyone can find something completely theirs in it, every single scene has so much to offer!

Tolkein's Catholicism is the key to understanding this magnificence. Beautiful. It, in turn, makes sense of our own. Evil exists. There is a fight. We can fall. We can be fickle. We can be golumised (as Tolkein scholar Joseph Pearce says). But we can also choose to be heroic. Heroism requires sacrifice. Mercy (as Frodo and Sam show to Gollum) will save us in the end. Good will win. Not without difficulty.

I saw the trilogy like a dozen times throughout the years (Like at least once every year or two) I've basically grew up watching the LOTR and everytime I watch it again I notice something new, or the same thing hits me differently than last time. The best example was the final scene when Frodo, Gandalf and the last elves sails away to the undying lands (Heaven, IMO); when I was a kid / teenager that scene felt dull, anti-climatic, gay, and not a big deal. Now as a young adult, that scene unexpectedly made me cry for an hour long, felt so intense and real, and left me thinking about life and everyone I hold dear. (The background music helped a lot, the responsible of triggering the tears) There a lot of good stuff that watch and enjoy, but nothing unfolds the different amount of emotions than LOTR.

I can’t watch that scene. Tears every time. I recently finished a re-read of the trilogy with my son and he was waiting for me to tear up lol. I made it through, BARELY. It’s so heartbreakingly beautiful!

There is an unrivalled ambiance to middle earth .What Peter Jackson and co captured in these movies will likely not be seen again in the realm of men. From the casting to the music to the cinematography we witnessed magic. It’s as though it was crafted by the dwarves , guided by the elves and steered by men. A true masterpiece that will span the ages and be marvelled at by the generations to come. “Don’t adventures ever have to end ? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story.” Bilbo Baggins

I just love that the second shot is (somehow) showing Frodo innocently reading the engraving on the deadliest weapon of Middle Earth. And the second last shot showing him smiling. Knowing that he saved other innocent people, and lost that trait on the way to it (giving in to the Rings powers and trying to keep it to himself from Gollum at Mt Doom) . Seeking now relief from the horrors he went through. Cool way to close a circle there

Beautiful. Lovely montage with incredible imagery and music. The one thing I'd say is that it emphasises the difference between the location shots and the cgi landscapes. It doesn't matter how good, how advanced the rendering, cgi work and digital artistry just has a different look to irl location work. Just echoing observations from Viggo Mortensen and Sir Ian McKellen.
