My theory as to Mr Compress's origin is that because of quirks the concept of "magic tricks" had lost all it's glamour due to society with the majority of people having special abilities which drove him out of stage performing with no place to belong and show his skills to amaze people.

It's very likely that he got one off screen that will be shown later or that he already had his quirk upgraded before he joined the League, his quirk is already one of the strongest in the series. He also could have gotten hidden weapons in his new arm.

Does he? He was already one level up from most anyone else in the league, he practically had a stronger version of Shigaraki’s pre improvement, and it’s arguably still just as deadly post improvement. Compared to Shigaraki’s buffed quirk which can be stopped by separating yourself physically from whatever’s part’s disintegrating, meaning if he doesn’t catch your actual body or a vital part, the victim can cut it off if they’re quick enough, Compress can touch a non vital part of something and instantly gouge out the important stuff with no possible reaction once caught. If anything he just needs to work on his speed, if he touched Chisaki before Chisaki touched him he’d still have two arms.

I love your analysis on the masks. I think one of reasons why Compress became a magician and later a Villain is because he wants attention. When he was a child he was neglected and ignored by his parents. He ran away, masters his power and became a performer and later a magician. But as soon as heroes became more popular, he lost his audience. Craving attention and famed, he became a Villain. That is my possible backstory for Compress.

Okay, I have this crazy theory for when we see some development on Mr. Compress. So you remember when Mr. Compress took Overhauls arm? He took his left arm correct? Well if that's the case since Overhauls arm is in a compressed state shouldn't Mr. Compress be able to use that arm to replace his missing left arm? Now here's where the crazy hypothetical bit comes in. Couldn't Mr. Compress be able to use half of Overhaul's Quirk or more realistically have his quirk evolve to a somewhat similar degree toward Overhaul (quirk)?

Never paid much attention to Mr.Compress's mask but its a cool touch. One thing that did come to mind now though is that his original mask does kinda resemble Stain and the Mask Toga wears during the first arc he appears in. This is also kinda strange given he later wears the "eyepatch" mask right before Toga herself winds up getting one after the battles in the most recent arc. Maybe there are more links between the two in their other masks but I cant think of any off the top of my head
