My elderly neighbor had the exact same ones in her house 🤣... I also learned about microwaving to soften glue, thanks for the tip! The desk area with the ticket machine and those filing cabinets... I just can't even.. honestly I just can't 😃 ... and yes, even though the chairs will be covered by the people the eye for detail still shines through... especially for the wooden chairs ... it adds subtle atmosphere that we unconsciously notice and it counts. 🙋🏼♀️Hi, I love watching your videos, but I’m curious🤔 Have you ever tried priming your fabrics with Gesso? A canvas is made of fabric so Gesso might give you a good base coat to apply your paint to, and Gesso comes in black, white, grey, and clear. I also build doll houses and 1/16 scale rooms and since I’m also a painter/sculptor/cake decorator/ etc… I try to use the tools, supplies, and mediums from these other crafts into my miniature projects. I also buy extra fondant molds to create different molded pieces for my miniatures. I hope this helps. Take care, Dee😊
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee! I have not tried that before but I think it would be interesting to see the results. I imagine it will make the fabric really stiff but that effect might be helping in some ways... you never know! I have seen the items in the cake isle and definitely thought about grabbing them for mini use lol!

I've been enjoying watching the Beetlejuice project come together. So much so, that I purchased a copy of the movie. It's the 20th anniversary edition! No wonder my memory is a bit fuzzy about the details. LOL I order a shirt and a couple of items from your store. I can't wait to get the shirt. I wonder how many people will be asking about the meaning of the 1/12 scale. It's going to be fun. Take care of your wrists and have a wonderful week.

I'm totally delighted, charmed and captivated by your work on this project, especially the accessory details like the ticket machine, signs, etc.. They are lovely! I thought you used ceramic beads for the lamp so your painting was spot on. It's so good to see an artist put so much attention to detail in their work, maybe because it's my favorite part to do on my own projects and a lot of people unfortunately can't relate to the supreme thrill of that (lol!). The ceiling is stupendous! I can't wait to see how you did it and it really tricks the eye into going wonky. As for Stormy, my own doggie loved to come to my room and lie around while I worked secretly on Christmas presents. I would chase him out, though, when the time came for his and he didn't much appreciate that. My kitties were another matter; nothing would stop them from trying to stop me. What they say about kitties being Prima Donas is true. I could never get anything done. But I loved every one of them just the same. I read that Einstein and Hemingway had the same problem...we are in great company!
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
I think the little details are my favorite part too! Whatever can be done to get THAT much closer to realism is exciting! Our studio buddies are the best aren't they? I find Stormy brings a calming presence by just taking her little nap in the corner lol!

Good choice in dogs. I chose poorly and have two hundred pound shepherds. You will not get any work done, and may not even get back up and they NEVER tire. . . Sigh. . . Once again you are doing solid museum quality work! You are so cautious I was a little surprised to see you dipping your finger in the paint. While this is pretty safe with water based acrylics many of the other products you use have a toxic component so sensitive people need to use care. Using a little artistic license is never an issue. Even in the movie set they are using 10 plus digit numbers on the tickets yet they have a two digit "now serving" sign.
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
Yes there is definitely a difference in dealing with an 8 pound dog verses 2 100 pound dogs lol! It is water based acrylics that I am using... I probably should have specified that!

Rather than using fabric medium, you can also use fabric softener. I have used it to both dye and paint on fabrics, and even tossed them into the washer, and the colours stayed on. It's so much cheaper to use, and most people have it at home. It keeps the acrylic paint malleable and not crusty. So it doesn't feel uncomfortable to wear if you want to paint like t-shirt or something.

Wow, Ara, what a great job. I haven't been very well the last few months, so I'm not too keen on commenting even though I never forget to leave a thumbs up. But now I'm blown away. Everything is excellent. And it's so nice to see you detailing your creations. Very nice work of reproduction, the spirit of the film is super well respected, Bravo . I can't wait to discover your characters in August. Kisses from France on the forehead of this cute stormy, and thank you for continuing to make us dream. Domi. J

I am so sorry you haven't been feeling well. Thank you for commenting to let me know how much you enjoyed the video! And I am always thankful for the thumbs up :) I will pass on the kisses to Stormy as soon as she wakes up from her nap😊

So wanted a T-shirt BUT…tshirt 22 bucks my size, postage over 38 bucks as I am overseas. No options for slower delivery to bring down that price…then translate to Aussie dollars. Result: shirtless and sad. 😢
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the shipping ended up being steep and the shipping is all up to the company that is making the shirts. I am definitely taking notes on everyone's feed back so if I do t-shirts again in the future I know more of what to research and ask questions about in the future. Asking more of the details on shipping is definitely one of them! I will be adding your suggestion of slower shipping options for the future.

My furbaby Chevy is like Stormy 😂 except he can be distracted and worn out with tennis balls, old rags and cardboard tubes….if i sit on the floor he just sits on me….he weighs 36kgs….pretty sure he thinks he is Stormy’s size 😂
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
Aww that's adorable! A tennis ball can't really fit in Stormy's mouth but she loves to chase them around the room too!

So much to enjoy here. Thanks for running two paint on fabric techniques to see which one you liked best! I’m kind of a lamp junkie,so I do love the lamps! Long live the 70s!!! ✌️ my favorite piece is the ticket machine. You really made it look convincing right down to the notches between each ticket. Brilliant!!!

Lamps can be soooo cool! So I see how they would be addicting! I have one that was my husbands grandmothers and its a prized possession of mine! I am so glad you liked it!

Ohhhhh it's wonderful Ara! Wonderful surprise to wake up to this morning. Stormy bugs you from the knees down. I have cats they like to walk across my paint pallet when I'm not looking so I find painty toes in random places. 🤣 Gotta make the burnt cigarette guy. 😀

If Stormy had cat like jumping skills I am sure she would be walking across my desk too!😄 So glad you enjoyed the video!

I think the word you may have been thinking of was electrical? "Electronical" might not be a word but "electronically" is so I totally get why you'd be confused, I was confused just looking it up 😂

😄😄 Thank you for looking it up for me! It all gets jumbled in my brain sometimes lol!

Is the extra painting you added a Bob Ross? It looks super familiar! I've never seen Beetlejuice before, but I still have been loving this series. Everything is just that much extra challenging and it's super fun to see how you tackle it. Can't wait for August!
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
No I don't think it is a Bob Ross but now I am wondering if Bob ever painted a covered bridge like that? I know he did structure every now and then. I am so glad you enjoyed it! I am excited for August too!

Fabulous! My wee dog also demands attention, usually when I'm just getting on a roll. Ara, have you tried adding cornstarch to your craft paint to make it more opaque? It's a "hack" I saw on another channel, and now I'm curious! If I were about to paint something, I would definitely try it.
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that before! I definitely will... I just need to add it to my shopping list lol! Thank you Meg!

A good idea before painting fabric paint coat the piece in mod podge.

Love the experimentation. This project is soooo much fun! If you wet the material and then paint with chalk paint and a wet brush, the fabric comes out more fabric looking. I use this on full size furniture :)

Thank you Adrienne! I am excited to try the chalk paint technique!

I have never done a miniature, despite my shortcoming (ha) I love your channel! Due to my lack of experience I suffer from not understanding the time and skill that goes into the projects. All of that to say, I don't know much, but this Beetlejuice waiting room is one of my favorites so far!

I always love hearing that people who don't make minis still enjoy my videos! That means a lot to me! Thank you😊

Bridges and water are also common themes in many old cultures of what happened to people after they died: they had to cross a bridge or water to get to where the afterlife was. (river Styx, Bridge to Niflheim, Polynesian water entrance to the afterlife, etc.) - so they are possibly multipurpose in movie :)

I think you are right! I want to do more research on this in the future. Its fascinating!

Well done, dear, your furniture with nods to the last century are quite interesting. I think perhaps you and your young viewers might not realize that the glues in such furniture often did seep out and darken things, but the biggest culprit was cigarette smoke! That’s particularly why those big beige barrel lamp shades barely emit light as well. I am so glad you are not of a generation that experienced that.
@BentleyHouseMinis2 жыл бұрын
Great point about the smoke. I do plan a little bit more discoloration once the people are in place... there is a smoking guy there after all!
