Great video and excellent examples! I’d also recommend adding a chain brush and at least three squirt bottles (one with plain water, one with soapy water, and one for kerosene for when you clean the chain). But you definitely nailed the necessities with this one!!

I'd say that a simple multimeter should go in the box too! And more importantly a torch(commonly know as a flashlight), lol south African slang. I always end up fiddling on my bike just before it gets dark. Great work on the channel CC and keep the videos coming. Greetings from Brazil

haha, I thought i was the only one who pierced oil filters with screwdrivers in order to get them off. Great vid!
@SmallSpoonBrigade5 жыл бұрын
The correct way to do it is to use the right wrench, however that would work in a pinch, as long as you're prepared for the oil leaking out of it.
@D.E.X4 жыл бұрын
When I cannot remove an oil filter canister with just my hand, I'll know I just had a stroke. I have 3xl hands. My gloves require Tucows to find them on-line and two cows to make them. And I have to use weather balloons because Trojan doesn't make...well, maybe I should save that for a later post...
@danmacmillan882 жыл бұрын
I had to do the same when I bought my bike but then I started getting the k&n filters that have the socket attachment at the top so I can just use a ratchet and socket easily and more clean
@SmallSpoonBrigade5 жыл бұрын
A few things, you're holding the oil can upside down. The opening should be on the top, not the bottom. It allows for more precise aiming of the oil stream coming out. It's worth getting ratcheting combo wrenches for most things rather than the regular ones as you'll do less damage to the fasteners that way. Some things, like brake bleeding will require a regular wrench. Lastly, you need JIS screwdrivers if you've got a Japanse bike as philips will damage the screw heads.

A must have if you own a Japanese bike is a JIS screwdriver. I have seen so many stripped and rounded out master cylinder bolts because people think they are the same as a Philips screwdriver.

Great video and loads of awesome information in the comments. I would definitely add the maintenance manual! Maybe not as critical nowadays with all of the info you can find on the internet, but it can save you a lot of filtering through forums and youtube videos. Especially on an older bike that may no longer (or never came with) all the little data stickers. My owner's and maintenance manuals are marked with little tabs for all of the more common jobs that I can handle myself.

I always got away without funnel when changing oil in my bike, thanks to great design of castrol 1L motorcycle engine oil bottles, which are very similar to car transmission oil bottles (when opening them a long, narrow nozzle is pulled out that allows for easy pouring of the oil into the hole).

I have two tool boxes, a large one and a small one. When I find I need a particular type or size of tool to work on my bike it gets transferred from the large box to the small where it then stays. This way, when I want to work on the bike, I only have to reach for the small box, confident I will have everything I need. So much more convenient.

For old Japanese bikes, a vessel impact screwdriver in JIS. Anybody who's worked on one of those knows they makw the screws out of cheese. Philip had bits are not shaped properly to remove them, and more often end up stripping the screw head. Furthermore, some things that haven't been moved in a long time are in there so well that without some inward pressure as well, you will not be able to remove it. The JIS impact screwdriver rotates I think something like 15° every time you smack it with a hammer. It's the only Phillips head style screwdriver I use anymore

Butt the nose of a set of linesman pliers against the fat end of the tie wrap and twist the end of the tie-wrap off to avoid a sharp end that can lead to an aggravating slash in your hand or arm when you are wrenching on a nearby part of the bike.

Get spares. Because some commonly used tools tend to evaporate over time. For instance, I like keeping a few 8 and 10mm sockets and wrenches handy. Two additions: Pliers wrenches. Those are genuine lifesavers. And for clipping off cable ties: flush cutters. Trust me…after the first time you gouged open your hand on a protruding bit of cable tie, you will agree.

plesse be kind as i have some critiques for this vid. i got suspicoous when item 1 was to set yourself up with a toolbox and worry about its decals. item one should be a service manual! no mention was made of needing the owner and service manuals. If viewer needs explanation of how a ratchet works .. well... 'nuff said about that one. Suggestion: get allens with a ball end! For the correct pressure gauge, see what you need for your ride, the straight end will not work on my ride. the demo had a 90 degree valve stem adapter i noticed. delay the toolbox for a while if money is tight. Instead get whatever compresdor you csn afford because tire pressure is critical to safety!

When I began on riding, I only had a socket wrench set. Now, I also have a spanner set, and I am looking forward to owning a torque wrench(es) to do more intermediate tasks like valve clearance adjustment, clutch check and replacement, engine overhaul and more thinks like those. Much needed now that my bike was involved in an accident against a car whose driver is drunk from a party. Ouch. Ruined the entire headlight/dash/fairing assembly. It is an FZR400R and that makes matters worse!
