A Tamiya was my first RC truck I ever owned. I’m 38 now so I got it when I was 6 in 88. My grandpa bought it for me and I must have broke $500 worth of steering components over the few years I had it. Every weekend until my Grandpa passed away in 91 we would go to the RC meetups and race. My truck was always faster than everyone else’s for some reason. My grandad was an old CB radio nut and I think he hopped up my truck somehow. 😂 He managed to keep it looking stock somehow so I ran in the unmodified class. I won a Kyosho Big Brute at the last race we went to. Those memories are so vivid and I’d give anything for one more weekend with my grandpa and my 88 Blackfoot. Ohh and I’m not crying 😢.... someone is cutting onions around me.

I bought a truck, started a new job, and started college all in the same month. Life got really busy there for a while and i was putting all of my time and money into my 98’ ranger. 5 inch lift, mud tires, custom welded bumpers etc. Before i built the bumpers for my 1:1, I looked around the garage and saw the scx10ii sitting there. I wasn’t sure what kind of bumper i wanted on my 1:1 so i made 3 different style for the scx until it was something that i thought would look good. Rc helps put things into perspective if your building a 1:1. Better to spend $5 on material and an hour vs. $150 in thick wall steel pipe just to find out it’s not the look your going for. Now i got a bit more time on my hands. Whenever it’s raining or late at night and i have nothing to do, I’ll mess around in the garage welding different roll cages and bumpers for rcs. Or when i’m injured i’ll mess with them because there is no heavy lifting. Definitely therapeutic when you can’t work on the 1:1 lol

Tremendous introduction. You really spelled it out. Right now I'm older with my own kids, finally getting a chance to build a Tamiya kit I only dreamed of as a kid (Lunchbox), and just purchased a vintage Tyco Mini Hopper from the US (I'm in Australia), and hope to get a red Turbo Hopper (Jet Hopper in AU) which was my favorite toy as a kid. Great video, you deserve more views and I suspect you'll get an avalanche of them one day. Take care, from a viewer in Australia =-)

I just start with the hobby one year ago and even when I know have a "better " options I choose two Tamiya kits. I traveled to Japan and I bought there a Lancia Delta (TT-02 Chasis) and a CC-02 Chassis with a Land Rover Defender body. Build screw by screw was a great experience and I felt in love of the hobby. Recently I purschace a Traxxas TRX4. Fantastic machine, but my Tamiya are special. The traxxas comes ready to run, the tamiya needs to be build, painted, ALL. Is like create the vehicle from 0. I love it

True but what seperates the two is the Tamiya being a kit. Traxxas started the rtr trend. Both iconic vehicles for sure👍. Thanks for checking out the video!

The lunchbox is great in stock form but order ball bearings for the gearbox in place of the nylon bushings and add some led lights and custom paint. I have videos on my custom lunchbox, as well as a stretchbox custom stretched lunchbox I built for my buddy. Check out those videos for more lunchbox info. Thanks for Watching and congrats on the purchase!👍

I want to get the tamiya grand hauler, but I have a trx4 and only have installed lights, so I’m not very very experienced, and I’m a 13 year old, and maybe if I work and do way more chores because I have 400, but I’m a bit overwhelmed what do you think, it feels life if I get a semi truck kit that expensive and big, I don’t want to mess it up. So what do you think? Do you recommend it? And I also don’t really want to buy a entry level because if I get a entry level and I feel confident, and but the grand hauler, I do t want to spend to much, so I want to be able to build and get the grand hauler kit without getting a starter....
@2RCPRODUCTIONS
@2RCPRODUCTIONS 3 жыл бұрын
The Grand hauler might be a little complicated for first build. I was 13 when I built my first Tamiya kit which was the hornet. The lunchbox or Grasshopper are good starter kits but not because they are inferior. They are iconic collectible RC kits that can last a life time they are a blast! It also will help you to build confidence and familiarize yourself with the components and how they all work. I was 13 when I built my hornet Im 48 now and still have it and still love it. Hope that helps and thanks for Watching!👍

@@2RCPRODUCTIONS thank you, I’m pretty familiar with components, what’s funny is that when I got my trx4 Bronco I asked the guy at the hobby shop if he recommend it, he said it would maybe be too complicated and to get the sport, but I wanted a classic 79 Bronco so I got it, I learn a lot of the basics like the esc, servo, and servo horn, and receiver, the Bronco kinda intimidated me but not as much as the grand hauler does to me now, the only problem is that I need to learn more on maintaining it liek greasing it and such, do you think the maintenance will be become a problem with me and the gran hauler???
@Upguy-tj3gv

@@2RCPRODUCTIONSSo I asked to other people on KZbin and they said yeah it’s pretty easy to follow and it’s not that bad, what do you think? Because I just want to make sure.
@2RCPRODUCTIONS
@2RCPRODUCTIONS 3 жыл бұрын
Upguy5180 if you are somewhat mechanical and understand the components you will probably be ok. Im not sure first hand how tough the hauler is but I saw 3 speed trans so A little more involved. Maintenance is usually not bad at all, the build would be the complicated part. Once you build it you understand exactly how it goes together so no more mystery and maintaining it becomes easier.

I didn't have time to watch all of this video, had to skip all through it but what I did see, is it just me or do these kits look like cheap toys from the 70s-80s? I expected to see High Performing Hobby Grade Machines, these look NewBright Toys from Walmart??? 😳
@2RCPRODUCTIONS
@2RCPRODUCTIONS 2 жыл бұрын
No these are fantastic kits they have been around since the 70s and are proven. They are plastic for the most part but made of quality materials. Tamiya is the leader in R/c kits. Anybody into RC in the 80s most likely had a Tamiya kit. Thanks for Watching!

@@2RCPRODUCTIONS Does Tamiya make modern kits, something a bit more up to date do you know or is it just all vintsge models? Thanks
@2RCPRODUCTIONS
@2RCPRODUCTIONS 2 жыл бұрын
@@ConditionZero76 They always have new releases as well. I would check inventory at horizon or tower hobbies websites for availability. Generally the price will dictate how intricate the kits are. They have kits that are 4 wheel drive with shifting transmissions and metal parts etc but they get costly.

@@2RCPRODUCTIONS Thanks man I'll definitely look into it, I'd love to build a race kit. I've built many Custom RC Crawlers but never an actual kit like a Tamiya. I'll have to check out Tower or Horizons inventory .. Thank you
