Not sure if somebody else said something to this effect or if I came up with it myself, my grand idea for building a hair routine has been to look for products that are specific to my hair texture (NOT pattern or porosity!). I always double cleanse even with a stronger shampoo, deep condition whenever I clarify and make sure to incorporate a bond repair treatment when I plan to blow dry or even iron curl my hair. If I use curl cream I'll go in with mousse or foam for conditioning, hold, and grit!

Ive been on my wavy hair journey for about 5 years and theres always something more to learn about your hair! I just learned this year I get better results when I dont microplop or plop. Also braids can be your best friend on rough washdays! I love leaving my conditioner in my hair lol. I try to stick to those that say its safe to leave in the hair. For me I also found having an "oil bucket" was also very necessary early on in my journey before I started seeing good results. More experimenting my hair absolutely loves oil after leave in and before gel which I find helps so much with moisture retention! The wavy curly journey is so much fun to explore and definitely do what works for you!

Hmm. I never thought to add some oil between the leave in and gel. 🤔 I’m going to have to try that! Thanks! 😊

For me brush styling is key. I don’t section or even make it precise because my hair is so fine and low density. I style upright. When I was styling upside down my hair stayed flat to my scalp. Styling upright using a brush gives me volume and my curls fall where I want. Courtney is such a wealth of information. I’ve learned so much through this channel.

I needed this video today. Thank you! I've been watching you since 2020 when I first went wavy. But lately I've had some health issues and hormone issues and I feel like I'm literally starting from scratch with my hair. This helped me for sure. Not sure if I need a leave in or not?! But I'm totally gonna use the bucket method for a while. 😂❤

On some days I feel down and I don’t really have much energy to style my hair, but ever since I’ve changed my routine to more healthy and wavy-curly appropriate, my hair doesn’t need to be styled every single time. Well, at least I’m ok with my look when my hair is not at its curliest; but it is clean and shiny and healthy and wavy… that’s enough. I’m happy that I can just wash my hair and let it air dry and it will still look good enough! In the past my hair was super damaged, and I had to style it every washday and sometimes in-between washdays, because if I let it air dry naturally, I would have ended up with a tangled dry mess. 😅

What a great video Courtney! Would have been most helpful a year ago for me, still picked up pointers which is terrific. I did share this with my sister who has been struggling with keeping what product type goes on when and I really think this is going to be so helpful to her. Thanks again for a wonderful video teaching and inspire us wavies out there, this was one of those days and wasn’t I lucky I found your latest tape urging us to keep going.

I've been working on mine for months. Have staples in my head right now so no products. 😒 Oh I bet it's hard with an oily scalp. I've been following you for a while now. You are one who convinced me I can get my curls back. It gets better every wash! What do you think of Wen cleanser/conditioner? I loved using gel in my hair. I do like you shampoo and conditioner upright then upside down for products. I have been air drying but it's so hard. I just got a new blow dryer with a diffuser. Can't wait to get these staples at so I can even brush all my hair! Oh wow, now you are 🦜 my about hair dryers and diffusers, lol! Silk pillowcases are all I sleep on. Yes I must keep track of what I use when!

Very helpful. I have been struggling with curly/wavy hair products for about 9 months now and still not happy with the results on many wash days. The other day, I combined a leave-in-conditioner with a curl cream. It was a sticky mess. 😂I blamed the curl cream... But maybe I give it another try without the leave-in! Thank you for the bucket-metaphor! That made the whole thing much clearer to me!

I like the invisibobble. I do not pull my hair tight when going into the pineapple. I tip my head over, finger comb towards the crown, and put in the invisibobble. This keeps my waves wavier on days 2 and 3. I like the idea of taking a picture and adding text with what products I used.

Hi, quick question, are styling brushes for curly hair, like a Denman brush actually worth it? Also, can you describe the "transition phase" to me? I'm pretty sure that's happening to me right now and I've been styling my hair curly for 2 months, so is the transition phase a sign that my hair is on the right track? Thank you for your time

My son will sometimes shower after a late practice and go to bed with wet hair. I literally grab a towel and dry his hair as much as possible even if he's already in bed. Then I'll place a towel on the pillow (which will end up on the floor but will absorb a little more water). Don't go to bed with wet hair!
