I'm sorry, but my original comments about these bells still stands. The local band must REALLY love these to preserve what is a not very musical ten. There is no account for taste.

Oh dear. Whilst it's undoubtedly nice to have the bells back in a ringable condition, I can't help but wonder at what cost. Even with tuning, they sound terrible (the nicest thing I could say would be "good for Norfolk"), not to mention the quality of the castings if 7 bells had to be welded! I can't help but question - was it really worth it> Or has good money just been thrown after bad? Especially when I understand there were alternative options offered, which would have produced a far superior result....

In Norfolk's defence (if there is one...) there are a few, and only a few, quite nice towers. Castle Acre, Gaywood and Hethersett to name a few of my favourites. Wymondham are also good bells, but the acoustics both inside and out are very poor and let the bells down massively.

@@tittums correct - "good rings" in East Anglia as a whole are few and far between (I will add Diss to your Norfolk list - good old-style eight, but they take a bit of ringing). Here though was an opportunity to change that, and put a beacon of light in an otherwise poorly fuelled region of class rings of bells. Hey ho, it isn't me that has to ring here every week - I hope they do stand the test of time. My gut feeling though is that they will have another project here during my lifetime...

They are certainly not terrible, and sound much better than I remember them. If you want terrible, ring at Bromsgrove.

How come they tuned the bells on the lip of the bell?

That was probably to skirt the bells to raise pitch

Even with retuning, they really don't sound good. They should have broken them up and recast them but of course that is expensive

They were offered the Cleator Moor bells to begin with and turned them down. Then they were offered the Paisley 8 and 2 new trebles to make them a 10 and they turned them down. Some of the local ringers like the current bells.

I have to be honest these are not the best sounding bells.
