This is my own rendition of Pete Seeger's powerful song "The Bells of Rhymney". However I have always thought that John Denver's rendition of the song has the very best arrangement, so I learned his arrangements and did my own cover of it. It's as close to Denver's rendition as I can be, and I believe that this is the first cover on KZbin of his arrangements of the song.
The song consists of Seeger's own music accompanying words written by Welsh poet Idris Davies. The lyrics were drawn from part of Davies’ poetic work Gwalia Deserta, which was inspired by a local coal mining disaster and the failure of the 1926 General Strike. Seeger first released a recording of the song on a live album in 1958, and John Denver first released his rendition of the song on The Mitchell Trio's 1965 album, Violets of Dawn. John did the song in his live repertoire throughout his career from 1965 to 1997.
The only pity is that I only have a 6-string guitar; if only I had a 12-string guitar, then I could get closer to the original version, as both Seeger and Denver played the song on a 12-string.
