Ran into this post on my feed. Great detective work. Yep. It was a test for the oversees studios. We test the studios we want to use by having them animate a few scenes from the storyboards. Character interactions for acting and of course a transformation scene. I love that you also had pages from the zine we put together for ComicCon.

I might be wrong here - but that MIGHT just be a vendor test. I personally don't think its a full pilot. Usually with tv animated series, the studio sends out a reel/animatic from a sequence to a variety of vendor studios to see which one they'd decide to stick with long term.

Even if it is just a vendor test rather than footage of an unaired pilot, I have to admit, I was excited to see it move in this video… even if the footage was heavily pixelated… it is interesting to note that the look of Ben 10, from the characters to even the logo could have been vastly different. As someone who was 10 when the original Ben 10 first aired, this felt like my a hidden chapter of my childhood I never knew I needed to see. 😁😁

If the concept art is true, then I can see why they changed it. Ben's bowl cut simply doesn't suit him and Gwen having a long ponytail would be harder to animate. I'm glad they changed it because the hairstyles we got for Ben and Gwen in the final product are far superior.

My bet for Multiversus is that They'd put one Ben as the character, and add the rest of the series counterparts as skins. I hope its they add the OV one with Hoodie. For character animation, i think they might go with Ben in human form normally, but when performing attacks or special moves, he changes aliens. Could be cool

I was actually thinking to go the Pokemon trainer route... since Ben doesn't usually do rapid transformations, and tends to stick to just a couple for any 1 fight. I thought the best way to do that is by having each alien be their own "character" and you switch between them using taunts. It would certainly take up a lot more time and resources, especially if you wanted to give ben a lot of his aliens, but I think it would be a better way to represent Ben in a fighting game.

My personal theory is that Washington B.C was originally supposed to be the Pilot episode. The grocery store footage used in this missing pilot and the fact that the Pop-Up Trivia says Animo was inspired by the events of “And there was 10” to continue his experiments makes me think the Missing pilot was basically the episode Washington B.C. with some obvious changes in the plot. The problems with my theory would be how would you combine Ben finding the omnitrix with a Dr. Animo plot, I feel it would take to much time. Unless the show starts with Ben already having the watch (like in the reboot). It could be implied Ben already found the watch, and the missing pilot could somewhat play like the one we know. Since in the episode(Washington B.C) Ben has to learn what being a hero truly is, and the episode also features Heatblast and Fourarms, 2 of the most promoted aliens.

I'd say that the washington episode was probably the first one, with the series building up the "And there was Ten" episode as a flashback for Vilgax's arrival sort of like the exposition dump he pulls later in the series proper

@@professorescanor7310 That would make sense, a lot of superhero shows start out with the hero already active, not necessarily experts, but at least having a few weeks under their belt, for example Danny Phantom started a month after the accident, briefly flashing back to it in a later episode, that then basically repeated history due to a wish (long story, watch the show), Spectacular Spider Man also started with Peter already Spidey, going back to the origins during the symbiote arc, Generator Rex made Rex's past a mystery that was a driving part of his arc, Miraculous Ladybug made the heroes origin the S1 finale and so on, in hindsight OG Ben 10 starting with his origin is almost an anomaly.

Fun fact: if you pay atention on wildmuth transformation, you can see that it has the pilot episode design, the shorter hair, light green eyes and a brighter skin, the scene overall has a more bright and lighter visuals and effects, which i think the series was suposed to have before the final product.

On the subject of Ben 10 lost media, there was a 2006 US commercial series for new episodes of Season 2 that used the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk. It was one of the first times I ever heard that song so it's always stuck with me. I've been searching for evidence of their existence over the past year and haven't had any luck yet. I've seen others reminisce about them in YT comment sections so I know they were not just a childhood fever dream. If anyone knows where I could try to find some old video files of them, I'll make sure to publish them somewhere so they don't stay as lost media.

In the season 1 Opening of Classic Ben 10, you can see a split second of the original transformation of 4 Arms. It looks VERY similar to one in the lost pilot

@Siboniso Buthelezi Diamondhead’s transformations are actually so weird. In the intro where it shows him spin is actually in the pilot episode, but the green light never appears until the very end, so as he spins there is no light until there’s a screen flash and he’s flexing. Then the light appears. But what’s weirder is that the pilot’s transformation sequence from episode 2 onwards is completely different from the first. So many details but I’m too lazy to write them all here so you can check for yourself. So Diamondhead spinning in green light is the pilot’s transformation sequence edited that’s never used again lol

@Siboniso Buthelezi The orange pulsing on Wildmutt’s transformation in the intro is actually used. You can’t notice it in normal time but if you slow down a video of Wildmutt’s transformation on KZbin the orange pulsing does appear, it’s just the white flash appears and covers it up until after the orange pulse is gone. So the intro includes a Wildmutt transformation with no white flash, even though the pilot does. Also Wildmutt’s transformation gets sped up as the seasons progress but that’s the only detail they change in it.

I think it’s exactly that one. The background lighting looks identical. But something I noticed with this clip of Four Arms in the lost pilot is that in comparison to the transformation used in episodes is that they focus on his face for just a bit longer, making the transformation sequence longer. It seems as if in the opening that Four Arms’ face is looked at for some time before it switches to XLR8

Maybe the mushroom was meant to represent or symbolize her magical/Anodite origins since mushrooms could also be associated with witchcraft. At least Gwen was able to wear red in Alien Force Season 3 and the entirety of Ultimate Alien, complete with a ponytail, likely as a reference to the pilot of the original series.

Ngl Gwen and Bens hair make sense in the og pilot cuz Gwen is a girl and when u picture a girl u will think of someone with long hair and maybe they had trouble drawing ben and he turned out like someone with a buzz cut but maybe later they managed to draw ben and they experimented with Gwen’s hair and we have the classic series

I remember watching this scene back around 2006. I think it was on the website because I remember downloading an .flv file of it to save it (haven't found it since sadly) but I also have a faint memory of watching it on KZbin. No matter I did see full animation from this scene and it sucks I can't find the file I saved. I also faintly recall Gwen having another voice. Why IDK.

Hehe I feel like Ben10 fighting alongside bugs bunny is the ultimate disrespect 😅 As a game dev. I always want to make a Ben10 game like this. Here me out. 1. A MMO similar to GTA, World of Warcraft, and etc. 2. Everyone one gets a empty Omnitrix. 3. Aliens exist as world Boses, and rare chance to drop tokens which unlock Aliens on your Omnitrix. 4. Team up, kill and collect aliens. Duel or arena other players from Omniverse. Might sounds like a Pokémon game. But much more action oriented.
