Dr. Francis offered some seriously mindblowing insights not only on the philosophy of intervention... But science as a whole. I got so much more from this convo than just biomechanics. Bravo!

10:35 I definitely agree, that was one of the first things I noticed in my city at pedestrian intersection cross walks, there are studed metal plates for blind people to feel with their cane (or feet), and they feel so good on the soles of my feet while wearing Vivo Barefoot Forest/Tracker boots. Excellent talk.

In 1960 Barefoot runner Abebe Bikila was an Ethiopian marathon runner who was a back-to-back Olympic marathon champion. He is the first Ethiopian Olympic gold medalist, winning his first gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome while running barefoot. At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, he won his second gold medal.

He also won 1961 Athens Marathon barefoot. Rome was not an accident.

There is a surprising amount of substance in this conversation thanks to the good questions and especially Peter Fancis' many philosophical answers. Many thanks for sharing it, very interesting and worth while information

The benefits of barefoot running to me is the lower body workout combined with cardio. I rather do a barefoot run than a squat lift workout. Basically I'm a male over 40. There's blood flow to quads, inner thigh muscles stimulation (I guess barefoot forces stabilization more?) with foot stimulation. More blood flow going all down to feet through my thighs vs just thighs (in squat workout). I can walk around my house barefoot vs wearing socks since my feet just feel warmer. Sex drive comes alive the next day after a good sleep day after workout! This is my shallow reason for barefoot run :)

What should I do, I have started running in a pair of bear foot shoes in my back yard, and have injured my left foot twice. I am flat footed.

start with walking adapt first this can take a few month or more so many muscles that are never used with bad shoes bent the knees a bit and watch more you-tube and follow the science.

As an advanced road runner I constantly train on the road and I am always running on the balls of my foot, so how can I change my running technique and to get the balance back to my running foot as I was out in a training run and I ended up with running knee injury and how can I prevent this from happening again as I am out of training for months now.

I’m 2 weeks into barefoot shoes vivo and my feet are still painfully swollen. Is this to be expected? I hope it’s temporary and would love to continue my BF journey.

The second podcast the doctor has not seen a person who runs naturally in rural communities. In my country in traditional barefoot runners who run in traditional sneakers one can see the imprint of the arch and toes with each step

I know it is an old video but I’m asking it just in case anybody happens to read it been really debating and trying to figure out what would be the best for perception and health between a minimal running sandal and a more minimal running shoe like either five fingers going to Vitos models zero shoes, whatever just trying to figure that out you know of course by mileage and cost sandals are cheaper but I was wondering about the five fingers do they limit anything they are perception of course, you know I guess pure barefoot would be your best move

I definitely have flat feet. Every doctor has been shocked at how flat my feet are since I was a child. I rarely wore shoes as a kid. I always played outside and even walked to stores in my neighborhood barefoot. I am almost 50 so back in those days in a small town it wasn’t odd to run around like that. I am active and tore my Achilles in. Spartan race. I have had nothing but complications with my foot and ankle. So I a bit confused with these discussions. 🤷🏽♀️

Truth is there's no one size fits all solution. Everyone is different. I'm a physical therapist, but I'm no running specialist, so I know a decent bit about treating runners and people with foot injuries. I'm a fan of properly done barefoot running in people that can tolerate it. To suggest everyone ought to do it and it will fix all their foot and leg pains however is ludicrous. I do know strengthening the muscles in the foot and ankle and light/tolerable general movement is ALWAYS a good idea for helping to reduce risk of injury and rehabbing weakness related injuries.

would it be possible to insert the automatic translation into italian?

Hi. To the best of my knowledge this has to be done manually..... Therefore, we are unable to provide translations to other languages for now. We are really sorry!

I think you push your point a little too much. You are a proponent of barefoot approach, fair enough, but the dialog would be more natural and less forced if you didn't try to bring up same issue so often.
@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The best interviewers mostly listen and only talk when necessary.

Even if you grow up with perfect form barefoot and such and then put on shoes you will deteriorate eventually eh?
