Good one mate. I grow tomato and basil together, and peppers and basil together, but I’ve never had all three in the same plot. Might need to try.

Thanks! You should definitely give it a try. Plus you can haven’t them all together and make some bomb pasta sauce!

@@urbangardeningwithgray Can’t wait for sauce from the garden man. I grow mostly vertical tomatoes so wondered if the peppers would be shaded out.

@@thegenxgardener 🤔 not sure, but definitely worth a try, because I think both can benefit from vertical growing.

Thank you for the great video! Do you have a video which explains how and why you use landscape fabric around your plants? I know you mentioned here that it helps with pest pressure but I wasn't sure if there was more to it than that. I don't get enough sun in my garden so I'm thinking of using it to reflect more sunlight.
@urbangardeningwithgray
@urbangardeningwithgray 5 ай бұрын
I don’t have a video specifically about landscape fabric, but perhaps I should film one. Although, to answer your question, if you are trying to increase sun exposure in your garden I would go with something brighter for reflection. The black color in the landscape fabric will absorb the heat from the sun and warm the soil, but will not reflect the ultraviolet light from the sun and this is what the plants will need. Thus, I would go with a brighter material, something perhaps silver or white. Maybe even a radiant barrier type material. Like this: amzn.to/3xIxSed Think of it like a sun shade in a vehicle, perhaps you can position it in such a way to reflect more sunlight in your garden. I did a similar design in a grow cabinet I built for my seedlings with grow lights and aluminum foil. Although, that’s just my initial thoughts. Be sure to follow-up with me and keep me posted on the progress, as I am quite interested if it will work. I believe it will, based on previous knowledge of how light was refracted years ago in ancient pyramids, therefore why wouldn’t it work in a garden? Thank you for your question and again, please keep me posted on your progress.

@urbangardeningwithgray thank you so much, great point! I do that aluminum foil trick with my seedings as well, so I definitely need something more reflective in the garden. I use lots of mulch so weeds aren't really a problem but I definitely want to solve for the light. I'm actually going to feed my plants more this year to try to offset the slower growth I experience from the good -- but not great -- sun. Thanks again!

So what should be the planting distance
@urbangardeningwithgray
@urbangardeningwithgray 24 күн бұрын
Start with a tomato plant as your centerpiece, then nestle some bell peppers about 12-18 inches away. Tuck in some basil plants around 6-8 inches from both the tomato and peppers. Let me know if this helps! Happy gardening!
