Gotta say I really love that when something gets messed up or goes awry you leave it in the video. I've learned so much from both the great tips but also the small mishaps. I found where my ponds was overflowing the liner because of another video where the guys found something off. Thanks so much for being real!!!

This summer, due to living in Tucson Arizona, with 100+ temperatures for months, my husband built a frame from PVC pipes, which I covered with 50% shade cloth. It helped to keep the water cooler for my goldfish. The added bonus is no leaves and pine needles to skim off my fish pond (only a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock pond!)

Netting is horrible to look at but where I live there are loads of herons. Even had a river otter make a visit. So a net is a must. The added benefit is keeping all the leaves out of the live oak overhead. Being somewhat of a master fabricator I tried to come up with something that wouldn’t distract from the beauty of the pond. So here’s my idea I’m willing to share. I purchased 1/4 diameter steel rods 20 feet long. I bent them ( easy to form around a big tree trunk) to a nice big curved dome shapes. I made 4 cross bows and one long lateral one. My pond is longer than wide. After getting them close to near length and shape I coated them with a rubber spray ( flex spray works great) . Then I made 2 foot long tubing pieces to drive into the ground. Length will vary according to your soil. So then you place the hoops into the tubes to hold in place. This will also allow you to remove for maintenance if req. then I draped the same netting as you used. I used black zip ties to secure and staked the netting around the outside so the net is taught. In the feeding area I took a section and zip tied a 3/8 dia.( for more weight) rod. This can be lifted allowing you to lift to feed. So far it has worked fantastic. The benefit of doing this is with the high dome you really don’t notice it as much. Plus it looks so much cleaner than big posts and line strung holding the net. Obviously I leave it up all year but I can live with it. Takes a little time to shape it to the water feature but it’s well worth it. One of my neighbors likes it so much she’s having me replace what she already has. Just an idea your viewers might like to pursue.

I thought I was onto something when I fabricated a pvc pipe structure together, and all I needed was 2 stakes and a tight cord??? Ha!! Well, at least I got the little plastic stakes part, along with using some of the rock work to help hold down the netting right. 😊 Thankyou for the tips.

The netting looks really good and effect. But for all that work, i would rather just do regular clean ups when the leaves fall rather than to set this up only to remove it when the leaves are done falling. Is this netting strong enough for predators such as raccoons, skunk, poseeum etc?

Great video, very educational. Is there any chance you could do less jump cut editing? It’s distracting and sometimes difficult to watch.

Maybe you could use a special Aquascape stone or stake of some kind that wouldn’t be too intrusive to the client’s landscaping but could be a clue to where you had previously driven your T-posts…therefore, safe driving with your T-post driver 🤔😉 🙋‍♀️💖🇨🇱

Go figure... with all that square footage of ground to drive the posts into, you found that 1/4 inch tubing to slice through. Anyway, good vid and helpful tips.

We recommend the netting be removed right before it starts snowing for the season. This is mostly for debris control and predation in the fall.

My problem with fall netting is that frogs always find a way to escape and then cannot find their way back into the pond. Have a solution for that?
@mike2687

Are you netting it just for leaves or for the entire winter for predation? If it's just for nets, they really don't need to be fastened to the ground--in fact, it doesn't even need to be within 2' of the ground and can just be mounted as a canopy. They also act like gill nets for snakes (some people use them as lethal snake traps) so we don't use them at all as we like our Rat Snakes and Racers for rodent control. I do remove the Water Snakes that show up from time to time because they eat our frogs.

Normally we don’t keep frogs in the ponds as they have a tendency to wander in and out. Once we remove the netting we get frogs coming by again.

Will you remove he netting once all of the leaves are done falling?
@TEAMAquascape
@TEAMAquascape 7 ай бұрын
Yes! The snow will be too heavy and will weigh it down. Plus we want to be able to have more access to add in De-Icers and Aerators for winter if they have fish!
