I'm in Ireland & I buy a UK seaweed extract called MAXICROP, it's available in lots of places and works well. When I walk the dogs on the beach there's always loads of seaweed washed up and it just sits and rots (smells really bad!) - apparently the law states that we can take as much as we can carry and no commercial harvesting is allowed - so I'm looking to find out how much work & time is needed to turn raw seaweed i to a liquid extract or even turn it into seaweed meal to use as a soil amendment.

Years ago I supplied yard maintenance to a seaside property where kids on water skis tore up much of the rich swirl lagoon sea plants, which washed ashore. Gathering these into approx. 9'x9'x3' high pipes to decompose, in a month these piles were pushing thousands of Lambs' Quarter seedlings which quickly grew into much larger plants than the random Lamb's Quarter growing along the beach. I added this composed seaweed to land plant composting piles, then applied in trenches to decorative plant beds. Those beds produced more abundant and disease resistance decorative plants over a longer season than beds with only land plant compost soils, although those composts produced better plants than the native soil. I left that employment before having time for further exploration. Since, I have been interested in restoring desert areas, where I see compost seaweed as a vital soil element

Indeed... Seastim has made some tremendous differences in the health and vigor of my crops this year. It was one of the best investments I made this year. I have seen a large difference in the health and vigor of every crop I used Seastim on. Now it will be a primary part of my fertility program... and one I go to first. The proof is in the pudding! I am truly amazed. I have been using AEA products for a number of years and never had the budget to add it before. Now that I have, I consider it essential for my farm's productivity and long term success. Thanks for this webinar AEA! Now I know even more about it!

seaweed or kelp is fantastic for vineyards in particular, grapes love them and you can see some quite high differences in yield anywhere from 10-40% increases on average, and they have been linked in studies to increased aromatics in wine grapes, higher levels of polyphenols and etc higher levels of nitrogen in the must when fermenting wines.

Hopefully it would be a clean enough source for regenerative agriculture uses !!

I foliar feed with low EC full spectrum hydro nutrients with amino acid (SUGAR ROYAL by PLAGRON) and a good quality seaweed extract (+ surfactant) every other day for about a week before I take clones from a mother plant and the cuttings strike root noticably faster than when the mother is not sprayed with the seaweed extract. I also must the cuttings with the same spray for the first few days and the lower leaves don't turn yellow like they usually do without the foliar spray. I live in Ireland and always see loads of seaweed washed up on the beaches when I walk my dog at the weekend, some is smelly and decomposing but some is still green and fresh - I wonder how much work it would take to wash the salt away and create a useable soil amendment (I grow mostly in coco & perlite) - like would 'seaweed meal" be worthwhile? Or does it take a long time e for the beneficial elements to become available for root uptake? I met a guy in the hydro store who said that he harvests seaweed from the beach and feeds it to his compost worms - that sounds amazing - Ive seen how effective worm castings can be and I wo der if the auxins survive the worms' digestive process? I'm sorta rambling & thinking 'aloud' here but if anyone has any knowledge to share then please do reply.

Fermented/blended for fertigation or hydrated/blended and filtered for foliar would offer more direct benefit. Wouldn't hurt though.

20 liters a hectare dilution rate.....applied in spring and fall, apply with plenty of water, as a drench, if you have lots of surface dry grass or thatch remove it first so the product reaches the soil.

Hi carpe diem jonah, we responded to your comment on another video, but in case you are still wondering: SeaStim is a liquid kelp extract that increases resistance to insect pests and boosts immunity to fungal pathogens. SeaShield is a cold processed liquid crab, fish, and shrimp concentrate that enhances plant vigor and resistance to pests and pathogens and develop strong cell membranes. You can find out more about these products on our Shop page (www.advancingecoag.com/store/All-Products-c20204119). - The AEA Team

Get powder form. You can use 0.3ml 0.5ml or 1ml per gallons. Natural growth hormones and 80 different trace minerals from the ocean. Use with humic acid. 5:2 for best results.

Never go powder. Go liquid, cold extraction, dried seaweed losses most of the benefits of seaweeds. Cold and centrifugal extraction that relieses compounds in the biological active form from inside the cell and no changes to its natural structure

To be honest I think what makes me very uneasy about it is the potential for radioactive particles to have collected in the seaweed but considering Jesus is Lord I presume that God hears prayers concerning it. Dear Lord God please protect our agricultural industry from the harm done everywhere.

Hello, I am just worried that if this really takes off, oceans will be depleted of seaweeds. Knowing how fast humans consume food, soon not only we will have less fish in the oceans (seaweed are fish and tons of other living ocean organisms nest for reproduction) And we already have seen this because populations have increased their intake of seaweeds for nutritional trends....

I think most places are simply growing their own seaweed versus harvesting it. I think we are a long long way off from that.

Conversely, with our increased interest we may see a huge increase in seaweed farming, and possibly even ecosystem restoration. It's a bit idealistic, but industries do want to protect their market, and with enough demand action would be required. Fingers crossed.

If we switch from modern agriculture practices and go to all organic, we would see the ocean and fish population be heavily strengthened. It's not because of our harvesting that is killing the population, it's our chemical run off killing everything. Sea weed grows very fast so we wouldn't have an issue.
