Say Heah, It must be the cookies in my computer because I recently got alot of videos ever since I started searching short machetes, One of my all time Fav, is my Rodent Rucki it's a 15 1/2" blade and 3/16th" thick with a choil, and it chops like a dream and I can baton it and even use it as a knife to do fine work. I also use my Johnson Adventure Parangatang awesome long knife for that type of Enviorment, But recently and infact I have it on this 4th of July trip, I took my BK-4 and I teamed it with my BK-2 I always thought of the BK-4 as a chopper, But the name Machete flipped the light on for me, I started using it as a machete, For a short machete it works pretty good, But I decided to use it as my large knife that I would use in a 2Knife carry, The BK-4 and the BK-5 are discontinued so I think they will go up in value. But that Bolo of yours sure does look good, That 80CrV2 is equivalent to the L2 how is its edge retention. Yeah sone of the places I go into that's the kind of tool I want, Send me some info and price please. And have a Happy 4th of July.

It seems like the bolo shape is just a less drastic curve than your average eastern kukri. The lines remind me of the BK21. I bet they match up if you compared them.
@FoxwalkPrimitive8 жыл бұрын
+Seventh Seal well the bolo is influenced by the khukri, but remember that this is JW Bensinger's adaptation of the design. A lot of others' are much more bowie like, and less khukri like. This bolo, and the RBK don't match up as close as they look. Thanks for watching, and commenting.

Have you had any dirt time with any of the Ontario Gen II line done by Dan Maragni? (There's a gajillion of them of KZbin) I have an SP53 which is supposedly 100% designed by him to be the ultimate hand weapon/bush tool. It's done in 5160, with great attention to detail in the shaping of the blade and heat treatment. He said he drew heavily from his study of Filipino blade arts when designing it, as well as his expansive knowledge of Ethnic blade designs. I'd be curious to see what you'd think of it....

+Jules Thurongi I don't have any experience with Ontario, but I do with the Ranger line. I'll look into the Gen II line, and get back to you on that sp53. Thanks for asking.

Given your experience with this knife and others. Do you think adding an inch or 2 to this knife , going down to 3/16 inch thickness nd keeping the distal tapers, might make this an all around hiking / camp knife? Making this somewhere between what this knife has and a BK 21 ?
@FoxwalkPrimitive8 жыл бұрын
+ldscpr great question! Here's the thing... any design can be tweaked like what you described, but it will be an entirely different blade. The longer, and thinner a blade gets it becomes more of a machete. Which in a lot of applications, or personal preference, that's fine. But, with any canted blade you get more glancing when chopping/snap cutting. This blade, as it is, has awesome balance, and handling. It's so responsive for a thicker blade, that you don't notice the "extra" weight that comes with large, thick knives. That being said, I think this blade is already a good all around outdoors companion. If you try one, I believe you'd agree. Thanks for watching, and posting a really good question.
