Alexander Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies and Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE discussed the rise of far-right movements and the challenges facing democracy in Europe and America. The conversation highlighted the large-scale protests in Germany against far-right extremism, reflecting widespread concern over the increasing success of right-wing movements.
Alexander Karp emphasized that he is very in support of protesting against the far right. Both underline the need to address the root causes of these movements, including societal and economic issues, while directly combating far-right ideologies.
Much of the discussion focused on the implications of labelling policies such as immigration control as inherently racist. CEOs argued that ignoring legitimate concerns about immigration only empowers far-right groups. They argued for a balanced approach that both tackles extremism and recognises real societal problems.
The role of business leaders and the tech industry in shaping political discourse was also a key topic. Concerns were raised about the potential misuse of AI and other technologies for surveillance and control, especially in authoritarian regimes. However, AI was also seen as a tool for societal improvement, including in journalism and industry.
The conversation also touched on the situation in Israel, with Karp and Döpfner sharing their impressions of the resilience of Israeli society and its democratic values, even in the midst of conflict and external threats. They discussed the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and the role of the international community in supporting democracies under attack.

It's important to bear in mind that todays 'far right' was yesterdays "normal" or "common sense".

If you’re not communist, socialist or liberal you’re a far-right extremist

only a few of their positions....(mostly immigration related) their stance on the destruction of liberal democracy and rule of law and freedom of speech have never been 'common sense'

I dont know who deleted my comment but I shall comment again. " maybe their ideas on immigration were the norm or common sense.. but their goal to destroy liberal democracy (multi-party system,elections.. etc) were never the norm.

Democracy does not serve the people, nor do over privileged/powerful billionaires.

Germany and Europe's best days are behind them. Why? Europeans' old money and bureaucrat elites will create rules and regulations to protect their positions and block new rising talents. Europeans' new talents and ambitions have left for other welcoming countries.

On the AI question, I would've told the moderator that the immediate impact of AI is that it will soon replace her, bcz what is she bringing to the table here?

you cannot outlaw ideas or beliefs. they exist as a ying and yang effect. how else do we measure our growth but to have a few that refuse to evolve? allowing them voice keeps them in the open.

Instead call yourself extreme left wingers, and them the "far right" become a common man with common sense.

I liked this discussion , even if don’t completely agree on everything. Karp is a very intelligent person but I think they have to be even more pragmatic on their evidence argument

It does.... Actual PRODUCTIVE society, unlike the British, who primarily enrich themselves through colonialism, and by extension off-shore taxhavens and other loopholes, used by criminals worldwide to launder their ill-gotten cash or avoid tax. Germany is actually producing valuable stuff, like the Koreans, Japanese, Malaysians, Chinese etc... UK is a shithole with no future. Good riddance!
