When I was 15 my parents bought me a Boosey and Hawkes Imperial Besson. This was identical to the Sovereigns of that period apart from the bell. It was £750 brand new! Soveeigns were about £1200 back then. I played it till I was 21 and fell in love with jazz, so I switched to cornet and trumpet. I am looking at getting a euphonium again, but there are a lot more options now than there were then. I think when I got mine there were no other compensating euphoniums on the market that were available to buy in the UK. Yamaha made four valve in line non compensating ones.

The Markneukirchen factory that produces Besson instruments these days is actually quite good at what they do. As you noticed, they really know how to do smooth and buttery valves.

One of my school-owned Euphs at my HS (The one I keep at school) is a brand new one of these but in silver! My other school owned Euph (The one I keep at home) is a 5 year old Silver Melton/Meinl-Weston 451, which I've had for 3 years (It followed me to my new school when my district split into two high schools). When I first got these euphs I was surprised that they trusted me with them, because I wouldn't trust myself with a $10000 instrument...😂 (I take really good care of it though)

I got my first own Instrument in Fall 2021. After 9 years with the music schools Baritone i got a brand new Adams E1 Redbrass. That thing cost 8.5k€, but man it was so worth it. I can now reach half a dozen notes higher, over an octave lower and its wayy easier to play. Now i also get all the hard parts and solos though 😂.

yes but also many others such as B (valves 2+4), and F below, in the middle and above the staff (the last two only sometimes for tuning purposes)

If it is what you want.....then it's ok....you can't go wrong. I myself play the BARITONE.....OOPS.....bad word for you guys i know....but i LOVE it!!! It is 75 years old, it is a Roth, (in GORGEOUS condition) and it sounds incredible!!!! Do i WANT a Euphonium....sorta....do i care if i have one....no,....there really is not that much of a difference if you have the right horn

I'm laughing at the fact that you used an image of a king 2280 for your price to quality comparison. I got a hold of one last year for $300 straight. Yea its in horrible shape looks wise but its somehow actually musically sound.

I think I was using a Bach 5g large bore in this video, the seller sent me a new one after the instrument arrived which is by some random brand named Faxx

i got mine free second hand from my uncle. it's old, so the engraving was fading. i didnt even know it was a besson until i looked really hard lol. pleasantly surprised
