"No such thing as an NTSC Mega Drive." There is such a thing. Genesis was called Mega Drive in both Europe and Japan. Most European countries used PAL TVs and Japan used NTSC TVs. So "NTSC Mega Drive" just means Japanese region Mega Drive. Since the U.S. also used NTSC, the only reason why some Japanese region ROMs won't work with an American console is because the ROMs (some, not all) had an artificial region restriction built into them to discourage import sales. It does look like the included ROMs are a mess though. If I had this I'd probably just use a PC to delete all the ROMs, download a set of U.S. Genesis & SMS ROMs, and cherry pick some Japanese ROMs that never had U.S. releases & test those to see if they're region restricted or not.

@@TheIcePhoenixx Try a everdrive Pack. Roms are sorted by Region or other Collections.

You could always delete the game folders that came on the cart and replace them with your own folders of ROMS. The thing that turned me off it was the fact that the region free option didn't work. That version of Street Fighter II with the region locked message in red was the Japanese Mega Drive version and if you ticked the region free box on the menu, it should have worked.

Ah, the birth of a new channel. This Was Made finally had its love child with a CRT TV. Glad to see ya doing what you've always wanted to do.

Instead of a nerd room I just built myself an emulation box running EmuELEC. Copied over the BIOS file, games, etc. Emulates NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, TurboGrafx 16, Neo Geo, Dreamcast, PSP, PS1, arcade machines like Final Burn Alpha, Sega Naomi, even DOS games. Lets me play on my LED TV. Hooked two Xbox360-style wireless controllers. Total cost was around $75 when I put it together two years ago, in April 2021.

I got one of those Chinese knockoffs and it works well. I didn't get a preloaded SD card though but every game I have loaded onto the cart has started and worked well... One game gave me issues with the save file though, which obviously can be annoying enough. Mine also is very slow to write a new game onto the cart memory.

When I was a child I didn't even have an option to rent games at a video-store but had to save money for annual trip to far away Austria where I had a few minutes to decide (based on cover art) which game I would buy. So I am offering an award for anyone to invent a time machine so I can give everdrive to my 9-yo self.

I wonder if there are some developers who develop cartridges using microcontroller, such as rp2040. Using this chip to increase the data memory capacity and reduce the production cost.

Hi, I bought an extreme edition edmds v3 pro last month. The save function wasn't working, so I replaced the battery. The only change I noticed is that a small light on the memory card slot now flashes while reading ROMs, but the save function still doesn't work. Additionally, the button on the cartridge doesn't do anything. Could you please guide me, and is there a manual or any other documentation I can refer to?

If there is an SD Card, then you can throw games on it yourself. I have my own selection of 200 games. There are U/J/Y regions, various hacks, translations into my language. I think you can try to bypass regional protection by changing the region through the utility.

How do you get the card to read? The card that came with it doesn't read. It reads on my PC no problem but not on the console

If the multi cart has a SD card then yes. If it's an all in one preloaded then no.

Might have better luck with a Model 1 Genesis that doesn't have the "produced or under license.." screen. I have bootleg multicart that will only play on my model 1 and doesn't load on the model 2 or 3.

Presumably there are levels of clone quality? I've got one on my Amazon wish list and poised to buy, mostly to just play romhacks and homebrew games. Should I???! Argh.
