One of the BEST Reviews I've seen on the Tascam DR-60mkii. I love your explanation flow from feature to feature. Thanks!

great review. i would have liked to see a bit more about using it in the field, since that's what it's probably going to be used for most.

It might be beneficial for you to describe in what form do the four tracks show up when imported to a DAW in a PC. That would be valuable to most here

I am looking at buying A tascam dr-60mkii or an zoom h5 or possibly zoom h6. I'll be using it to shoot YT videos And I can get the dr-60mk2 a lot cheaper as I'm purchasing gently used one. Considering that I'll be able to save anywhere from 100 to 200 dollars over the h5 or h6 If I buy the tascam. And considering I'm currently just using phantom powered xlr mic direct into the camera. Do you think it is a safe/smart investment for my use? Assuming I'm not purchasing a lemon that is. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Guys, please help! Tascam DR-60mkii or Zoom H8? I will record through a Senheiser MKE600, and I need to buy other equipament, so this range of price of both of them are my limit to buy a recorder

Can anyone explain why when in recording the audio levels are almost non existent? They're so low but I have the dials maxed out. The gain is set to low, because someone the noise sound will be too much if I up the gain. Is this true? How can I make audio louder? I've tried 4 different mics they're all too low when recording through this...
@AlteraSound5 жыл бұрын
Raising the gain will add noise, but for most mics it's necessary to get good levels, and as long as you're not on the highest gain setting it's doubtful the noise will be noticeable.

Does this support voice activated recording with pre recording? I am trying to get something that will also effectively record my neighbors dogs barking and would want a voice activated with pre recording so I don't miss the first bark or two. Thank you.

You mention the output on the 3.5 mm Jack being for scratch audio only, why do you say that do you think it's not enough quality to use as the original source. I'd rather lay it directly with the video track then have to deal with the SD card and sink up later. I would use the SD card for 4 split tracks, so if I have an issue with them overstepping each other after they're compressed to the camera as stereo.

Seriously, what do you think the quality of the onboard AUDIO camera chip is like? Lol. Maybe in an emergency, ENG, voice only, run and gun.

Got any tips for me: I am looking for a simple video/audio recording system for recording just 1 guitar or 1 guitar with vocals in my music room. I want to spend less time fiddling with tech stuff and more time playing my music... but I also want to record my practice and occasionally record a finished piece. But I do want good audio quality. Thanks, John

Hi. Can you tell me if it is possible to overdub with this recorder? As in lay down a guitar track and then go back and record a vocal over?

What's the best gain to noise ratio level? I want to record crickets and crows and I can put it up to the max level, unfortunately there's too much hiss. I can do an adjustment but see what you thought thanks much
@AlteraSound2 жыл бұрын
Inevitably you're going to have the same amount of hiss relative to the sound you're recording no matter what you set the gain to. Generally you want to set it fairly high to get all the information you can, but leave 10-20dB of safe space in case you get a sudden loud bird or something.

Hello, can this device record 4 channels from the following sources at the same time: XLR1, XLR2 and 3.5mm line in? Thanks

Yes it can! The 3.5mm stereo input has both channels controlled by the same gain, but you can get four channels total.

Great video, thanks!! Not sure I understand the "slate" feature. Is this to sync with video? If so, how does it work?
@richardowens90613 жыл бұрын
The slate feature produces a tone that can be easily identified in post production and assists in synchronizing the audio to the video.
@ratt573 жыл бұрын
@@richardowens9061 I've tried it and heard the tone. How do you sync it to the video?
@richardowens90613 жыл бұрын
@@ratt57 You need to use software, like Audacity, Premiere, or iMovie. The process is going to be different for whatever software you use, but the idea is the same. The tone has a unique visual signature that you - and, the software - can easily identify. You then line up the time lines between the audio and the video.

There's a switch beneath inputs one and two to select line, mic, or phantom power for those inputs. I'm not sure about the firmware, but I'm sure Tascam's website has instructions.

May I ask which one has lower noise levels?
@HikingWithCooper2 жыл бұрын
If the H4N is considered great, I am staying away from this. The H4N is the biggest POS equipment I've ever used. The audio quality over 40% is horrid and unusable. Adding a preamp turns the xlr into a radio antenna. I have no idea how the H4N is so popular. I can't even get a hundred bucks for mine because people have figured out how god awful it is.

Please clarify. Am I able to use the DR-60 on my DSLR or camcorder with the 3.5mm jack and be able to synchronize the audio with the video being recorded by the DSLR in real time. I do not like the idea of synchronizing a separate audio and video after the shooting during editing, as it consumes a lot more of the editing time. If the DR-60 does record audio seperately which other audio recording options can allow me to synchronize the audio with the video during shooting? Thank you.
@AlteraSound5 жыл бұрын
That is correct. If your camera has an audio-in jack then you can plug an output from the recorder onto the video track and have the Tascam's audio recorded to the video file.

connected my condenser mic to this and have max gain and volumne isn't very high. what gives?
@AlteraSound6 жыл бұрын
The physical gain knob is the fine gain control, you have to go into the Input settings in the menu to adjust the coarse gain, which by default is probably set too low for a condenser microphone.

I disagree with your opening phrase. I think audio is more like 75% of your video. people are forgiving when video is not perfect but they are not when audio is crappy. But maybe as a sound engineer before videographer, I am not fully objective :)
