I spent 9 months living in Amsterdam a few years ago. The “inner ring” you mentioned is all the tourist trap areas. Outside of that is more of a “vibe”. Highly recommend venturing off to those areas next time you’re out and about in Amsterdam. The first time I visited Amsterdam I was also strolling around with my mother and we accidentally stumbled upon the red light district 😅. It was a lot cleaner than either of us expected.

These buildings lean slightly to help move furniture which in the old days was manouevered through the windows with a rope / hoist. A lean forward helps the furniture not bang against the lower wall/windows.

Some nice memories here...one of my favorite non-rev trips during the airline days was Amsterdam. The original plan was to fly to Montreal or Quebec City but couldn't clear the four of us onto a flight to a hub that served those cities so we looked at our options...found some business class availability to AMS from Houston, got to Houston and had a great trip! Amsterdam during the summer was definitely a highlight.

Great video Taylor! Amsterdam is always a great place to stop off at on a trip to Europe, depending on your situation I tell everyone its “Europe lite” because nearly everyone speaks great English, there are several cheap and easy forms of transportation on top of walking or biking (which are the best imo) and there’s several different types of food from all over the world to satisfy anyone’s taste buds. Not to mention you are a quick train ride away from like 5 countries so I reccomend this as a great layover stop like you did or a great place to start an extended Euro trip especially for first timers.

yes, we are taught English in school as our second language. And personally, I find it a lot easier than French for example. And about the food, we don't really have that many specific food options that are from the Netherlands, it's all mostly a mix of other cuisines. But I'm glad to hear positive thoughts from foreigners about the Netherlands.

@@thechrisverhoeven Thanks Chris and yes I meant the food seen is amazing because of all the choices from various cultures and countries. I’ve been to some phenomenal argentine steak houses, Indian, Thai, Moroccan etc. And I do love Dutch kipper snack and bitterballen!

How you will remember all these travels! I have a small collection of currency from each country I went to. It's good to buy one item that will represent your trips from everywhere. I really like your trip to Giza. Our camel was grumpy, spitting, and roaring at us. He was not a happy camper at all. But I did get to see a camel race (Riyadh, Arabia) and the old Cairo museum, as well as the burial chamber in the main Pyramid. You will meet people who have never been out of there home state, and you can tell, their view of the world is different. When you go through all the travails of going to many countries you appreciate other walks of life. Go Taylor...🐢

Living in Amsterdam I was somewhat surprised by your remarks about the weather at first 😆 glad you came in summer to enjoy the great weather though! Its nice to get an impression of my city through your eyes! Fun fact about those leaning houses: it’s because city taxes in the olden days used to be calculated over the ground floor square footage, so this was a clever way to trick the system. It also came in handy to lift cargo without it slamming into the lower floors too much. Those houses all used to have lifting systems on the top floor (and most still do). Also, where you were walking at 8:40 is literally in a mission in the newest Call of Duty 😆

@@TaylorBell You pick the most shady areas of the NL to highlight. Shouldn't you venture just a bit outside the historical Amsterdam canal center and red light district ? Because what I see in the Netherlands is a country so organised proper and clean you could almost literally eat off the streets. There is practically no garbage or trash , no homeless or junkies to be seen. The Netherlands is like the finest most refined Swiss watch in country form.
