Some reviews say sigma dg dn is not sharp wide open. Is it true?

Wide open aperture you mean? If yes - it is going with all lenses with wide open aperture. Because area of focusing becomes smaller in f/1.4 than in 2.8 or more. If you want get sharper image- use lower aperture f/3.2-4.0 etc
