Great video. Scorcher is a 3d racer that has an amazing Saturn engine - it was very hard to play so get ignored but the graphics are top tier. Way better than Wipeout.

The craft in Scorcher always reminded me of those little plastic balls you get in the pet shop for cats. 😂 Decent graphics engine for the tracks, but I still think WipEout edges it. Cheers, Simon!

I read somewhere that Alien Trilogy only uses one of the two Saturn CPUs. Incredible that it turned out so well.
@SEGAGuys4 ай бұрын
Yeah, someone else commented with that too, sounds like a similar situation to Tomb Raider which didn’t use VDP2 at all. So Alien Trilogy only uses one of the SH2’s? You’re right, that makes it even more impressive.

Die Hard Arcade was why I wanted a Sega Saturn over an N64 or Playstation. I played the actual arcade at my local arcade at the time and loved it. My best time beating DHA is about 13:45 mins in just 4 credits.

anzer Dragoon Zwei I played before the on a demo disc (can’t remember which one it was) episode 3 the forest level and I was absolutely blown away with it The others, when looking at them, you really question why people said it wasn’t a 3D machine - they all look fucking amazing
@Longlostpuss4 ай бұрын
Because it wasn't originally designed to be one, it was a last minute desperation move by Sega to add a 3D chip, because they had discovered what Sony were about to launch. The really amazing thing is that they actually used sprite layer trickery to imitate the illusion of background 3D effects, when in reality it was still only 2D, but that's how much processing power was on tap in the Saturn. The console was a beast, even though only Sega really knew how to get the most out of it, so that's why it got its unjustified reputation of not being a 3D machine, which was only partially true.

Absolutely agree with every single one of the games listed here. Some truly incredible conversions and original titles in this list. I'd argue Sega Rally, VF2 and VC2 are the absolute holy trilogy of saturn 3d gaming.

Well done James great video. Was a great generation to be a part off, seeing VF2 for the first time wow, Gran Turismo looked like a generation leap in the replays, good times.

The period when Sega Rally, VF2 and Virtua Cop were released was unbelievable for me - I couldn't believe I had these games in my house on my massive 14" portable tv. 😂

AHH, disappointed the greatest SRPG of all time ONLY on Saturn didn't feature (Shining Force 3) but some fantastic choices. Hoping at some point we can get a vid of some really uncommonly spoken about games on the system from you guys. Aiming to try and do that myself but my vids are pretty mucky in terms of quality compared to yours 😂

What an excellent couple of videos this was! While I didn't own a Saturn when it was current (long story short: I couldn't afford it), but I did own a Playstation (which was given to me as a gift), I was DEEPLY ENVIOUS when I saw Virtua Fighter 2 running on a demo display in a shop (possibly Dixons...). At the time, nothing looked more smooth and fluid as VF2 on consoles. By the way, Panzer Dragoon is right up there as one of the best looking games of all time, in my opinion.

I still have all of these games, except for Wipeout 2097 and Panzer Dragoon. Both of which I owned in my youth but swapped for something else.

Great list of games and a good little series. Looking at my library, I can't think of anything extra I'd add. The two Wipeout games and Manx TT are probably just about deserving of this list. I do have loaded, which features some great lighting effects, so could have potentially made the cut, perhaps.

Another great vid, fantastic selection. It’s almost unbelievable how perfectly designed the Sega Rally tracks are, trying to shave milliseconds off your best times never gets old. It still looks beautiful, I love watching the replays.

What about Gex and Croc?!? They looked pretty good to! Although the PS1 version of Gex as slightly superior. 🙄 Saturn is my favorite failed/underrated console of all Time right next to the DreamCast and PS Vita! 😎

I may need to do a part 3. 😂 Cheers for watching, Bradley!
@ThoughtformsOfTheSubconsciousM25 күн бұрын
Gex has far less loading on the Saturn, but it's true they screwed up some of the transparencies on the Saturn. I'd say they're about even, though the game was never a beautiful one to begin with. Is there anything else that makes the PS1 version superior?
@bradleymcavoy343225 күн бұрын
@ThoughtformsOfTheSubconsciou… Well I thought some of the particle effects on Saturn looked better but yeah there was less distortion and texture tearing on the PS1 and the PS1 had slightly better sound but ironically this can be fixed with a Sony television for the Saturn! 🤣 Or most any good name brand Japanese television at the time ( Hitachi or Panasonic) but I actually modded my Saturn by soldering and extra sound board and to make it Run as if it were a True 64 bit system! So with my modded and refurbished ( I had a friend take it apart and put it back together with some of my fixes.) So the sound is usually better for the PS1 but my Rebuilt Saturn is equal or superior in sound and processing power than PlayStation and depending on what TV the PS has a slight edge in graphical fidelity because it sometimes runs at a lower FPS rate! 😎 This is just my experience fooling around ( You could mod any system and wind up messing something up, the internals or for a more modern system a glitched software patch! I had a friend do that to a PSP and basically it was so far gone it became spare parts for other PSP’s! 🙄)

What framerate / resolution did DOA have? I guess 60fps and 320x240 but not sure if it was more as VF2 with higher res?
@SEGAGuys4 ай бұрын
My understanding is that the game runs at the same resolution as Virtua Fighter 2 using the Saturn high resolution mode: 704x480 (VF2 is 704x512 in PAL regions due to PAL optimisation).
